Human beings NEED to believe in something. Atheists frequently consult cards, or tarot, or something similar.
After the Soviet Union fell to pieces, it was revealed that Leonid Brezhnev had a card reader and consulted his horoscope.
Hitler also had a card reader. Fidel has its witch doctor.
If God had not manifested to humanity, they would have created something, like primitive peoples believed ( and some still believe ).
Now, back to the real idea. If there were no religion, the world would be chaos. No rules, no good, no love.
Consider that The Ten Commandments are the basis of any civilization.
Terrible !
Just look at the systems without religion. Germany under Hitler, Russia under the Communism, Albania the same ( by the way, in Albania you were shot if you baptized a child )

Depends on what you mean by religion.

I think it is a basic, unavoidable part of our nature to worship something. If we don 't worhip the Deity, then we unavoidably worship something else: money, power, nature, psychology, our own egos, another person. etc. And all those things will cause you pain and suffering in the end.

So no religion might be a good thing. But no worshipping: impossible for human beings.

i believe our drive to do what is right is based on a religious belief of some sort... if we did not have to answer to anyone why would anyone care if the world broke every law we currently have in place... you might say because i wouldn't be right... but, why wouldn't it be right?? who determines what is right or wrong and who is the judge of that?? laws started in the beginning... remember the 10 commandments?? during that time everyone was running around doing all kinds of craziness.... so, to answer that question i think we would lose all respect for other human beings and our selves...

It would be a very, very bad thing. Revelation tells us that in the end times, God will remove His grace from humanity just before He returns. The things that are holding your neighbors back from killing you or torturing you now will be gone then. It will be dog-eat-dog all over the planet, and no one will have any mercy, except those who have been saved.

Remember GOD created everything good for man.
But for man to recognize good, GOD created bad.
This gave man a measure, on how to judge life.
Without the Bad, how would man recognize good?
How much?
Religion was invented by man, not GOD.
GOD IS !

If the world adopted a rational, humanistic ethical system, it would be better off. If the world adopted some other ignorant. dogmatic system, such as the deistic personality cults of Stalin or Mao, then no, worse off.

Considering that non-believers make up roughly 10% of the general population, but only 1% of the prison population, you would expect the world to be a much more peaceful and crime-free place....

There would be no hospitals like Queen of Angels, St. Luke's, Good Samaritan, St. Vincent's and Cedars Sinai. You'd play hell finding an "Atheist General Hospital" when you need one!

if there was no religion, many of the (now) theists would be held up in mental institutions... just because there wouldn't be religion doesn't mean there wouldn't be irrational thinking
