First of all, I want to point out that I don't view the book of Revelation as prophecy, and most of the things I'm about to mention aren't strictly scriptural, but speculation in the style of Tim LaHaye, et al.

Many people believe that the tribulation period will involve the institution of a "one world religion", which involves viewing the anti-christ as God and taking the mark of the beast. And most people assume that newly converted believers will be standing alone against the anti-christ's regime.

But what about atheists? Atheists aren't inclined to subscribe to any particular religion now, why would they be likely to follow the "one world religion" of the future?

If the "end-times" were to play out in this particular fashion, is it possible that Christians and atheists would find themselves allies against an oppressive dictator?

Yeah, aaron ... I said that it was all speculation and not scripturally supported. Most people base their knowledge of end-time prophecy on the "Left Behind" movies.

I've read the entire bible and never came across anything that sounded remotely like what Tim LaHaye describes. It's all made up.

The Tribulation has already begun and the anti-christ is a system not a man. You live in the anti-christ beast system currently.

Judgement will begin in the "House of the Lord" where the wheat will be separated from the tares.

The "mark of the beast " is a spiritual mark .

The fleshly Jews are not the "chosen people" the Christians are. Read Romans 2:28,29. The church currently stands in an apostate condition and most have given up thier birthright to the fleshly people hence committing the sin of Esau. God said He hated Esau for he placed little value on his inheritance. The church is the whore of Babylon.

In less than three years the kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdoms of our God.

I pray you stand on the right side of the plumbline.

Let me get this straight....
You bring up LaHaye's fictional interpretation and embellishment of Holy Texts and ask a "What if...?" question?
Good grief.

But just for laughs, yes, even atheists will begin to follow a man (anti-christ). They will not worship him as a god in the traditional sense, but they will follow him as though he were the epitome of human genius. (Atheists already have the development of the human mind as a god.) But in the end, anti-christ will demand to be worshiped as God.

And at that time, Christians will not be on the earth to be allies with any humans.

the anti-christ is mentioned both in Revelation and Daniel.
the LaHaye series was made to get people think about
it so they wouldn't get left behind.

atheist will never side with the christians regardless of the
situation as they won't take it as a bad sign.

most atheist think the christians need to keep out of
politics and will see a "non christian government" as
the ideal.

You see what you missed was the little part about the mark of the beast. You will not haft to take it, but if you do not, you will be butchered. it is that simple. to begin with you just will live underground and buy and sell food, clothes, medicines underground. But that will only last for a short time. If you chose not to accept the best, they will kill you, since most atheist will say what the hell does it matter, they will fall right into the trap. Once you accept the mark, there is no turning back.

Interesting thought. I suspect that the Athiests in general will be siding with the anti-Christ, though. And the Christians will look at it as some kind of thing, like presented in the Left-Behind series.

As for that series, I have to believe that it is based on his beliefs, like Da Vinci code was based on Dan Brown's beliefs. And to me that puts them on the same footing, entirely fiction.

I don't think so. The anti-Christ will offer atheists the one thing they claim is required before they can believe...proof. This "new religion" will stem from a new world government founded on principles that will appeal to everyone regardless of their beliefs. Through his world leadership he will do things that people believe are "miracles" and even (or perhaps especially) atheists will come to accept him as God.

At that time the atheist will stand alone without God and the anti-christ will be their God ,God will come in the middle of it all and take his people out of it.

According to Scripture, in the "End Times", Satan will attempt to counterfeit Christ by performing various miracles that will be so stupendous that even atheists will be "convinced". Even people who are "saved" may fall victim to his wiles if they do not heed the warnings of Revelation.

This "left behind" fiction was foretold by the prophet
Ezekiel; Ezek 13:10-23. It tells of false prophets who
lie to the people for gain. They are building this wall,
church, and are using "untempered" morter. 1 Cor
12:24, says God "tempers" the body together, but
Ezekiel goes on to say, "Will ye HUNT THE SOULS of
my people, and will YE SAVE the souls alive that come
unto you?" He says they pollute God's name for gain,
and "slay the souls that should not die, and to SAVE
THE SOULS alive that should not live". He says, "I ...
will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make
them FLY". Rapture away leaving loved ones behind.
He continues by saying, "with lies ye have made the heart
of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad". Gospel
means good news, not bad news. It ends with the promise
that God will deliver His people out of their hands.
