Why these discussions were not held centuries ago?

Just because someone comes to your door wanting to talk to you about God, whatever God it may be, doesn't mean they are shoving anything down your throat. Its possible that some are, but I have had a few groups come to my door and they've been nothing but kind, making sure it was okay that they talked to me. I didn't open the door and they started to scream at me like it sounds like they do to some people on here. I suppose if you open the door and scream at them they might do the same. Just because someone wants you to be okay, i.e. go to heaven, doesn't make them a bad person!

Let's keep it even whether you consider somebody a religious fundie or an atheistic fundie.Which argument/excuse have you heard that is so ridiculous it makes you laugh.
My own current favourite is
"They may have read the bible but they can't understand it"

I would never want my children hearing about a god that burns people forever or needs blood sacrifices to make it all okay...ie Christs blood!
You can't really think your dogma should be taught in schools can you?

I just got glasses. All these years I never knew I needed the stupid things. Never knew how expensive they are either! Anyway, I actually got my glasses for free through a Christian program for low income people. First off, I'm not a Christian. Second, although it would have been a bit of a stretch, I could have bought them. I told the lady both of these things. She said that it is for whoever needs it, and just because I could pay for them doesn't mean it would be right (based on my disability income). I feel that I've made use of a good program, to make my life easier. How many of you think that what I did was wrong? Apparently the lady who runs the program, and the optometrist don't see a problem, but I'd bet someone will.

For all religious, and non-religious: would you denounce what you believe in to save your own life? Why or why not?

(Luke 17:33)
"Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it."

Q: Why are christian divorce rates so significantly higher than atheist or agnostic ones?

A:"Why do you have to be so stupid? Really? It's people like you that keeps Satan working at us that's why. "

people are always bashing st paul on this site, claiming his letters shouldn't be in the bible. i'd like to know what the cause of this really is. is it the result of an arrogant belief that somehow believers that came along 2000 years after the letters were written are more worthy to decide what should and shouldn't be in the bible? is it the result of immaturity of faith? is it the result of a refusal to humble one's self? why do people (''christians'') claim that st paul's writings should not have been included in the canon, and to those who claim the commandments written in his epistles were only temporary, how do you justify that claim, when it is written that God's Word stands forever?

understand you very well. I used to be an atheist, so I think I understand that you are not some kind of monster or that you are not evil or something, the way many Christians might believe. Please take this chance to let Christians know what bothers you most about them.

Ever since I was a little girl, I wondered how any one congregation could "intelligently" believe that only 400,000 are getting into heaven. And what about all the people living in poor countries ? People that have never seen a Bible ? I believe we are ALL in it together. WHATEVER it is, I don't think ANY religion knows what it's all about ! And God, Allah, Our Creator, etc.... cares for the poor people in Africa, in tribes, just as much as He cares for the Muslims, Catholics, Buddhists, and Rastafarians. We beat each other up too much arguing over the details.

many say there was a St. Valentine, a St Nickolaus (Sinter Klaus / santa claus) and there is much to do about the son of a carpenter turned miracle maker and dying son/savior. Is it really some truth based upon exaggerated tales, like a Jesus going to 'hell' or down into a demon infested pit where it has always meant 'grave'?

Reading in my daily devotional today from ACTS 4:34-35 "All who possessed land or houses sold them and brought the proceeds to the apostles, and the apostles distributed to each as anyone had need."

So my questions: Were the early Christians socialists? Should the church be more socialist today? And would Christianity attract more liberals and atheists if we practiced more socialism?

Because the (GOOD) book by most accounts is heepum (Malaprop) full of a angry GOD. HE has killed HIS people for whining and what seems to me minor transgressions. If so did he send a space chunk (Malaprop) to wipe out HIS creations because they were incapable of worship, 65 million years ago. If so why didn't HE speed up the evolution process and get HIS worshipers sooner. I mean christians want us to believe that our 24 hour day is important to GOD, that every hour could be spent doing HIS work. Now we've established that christians are definatly diveded into two camps, ones that believe in evolution (NOW) and ones that believe the earth is about 6000 years old and evolution starts with Adam&Eve in HIS likeness, not microbial. Now should we humans fear GOD'S wrath, I mean HE could easily send another asteroid (space chunk) and let us all know HE'S still in charge. Now don't be offended that I refer to HIM,HE,HIS I do that out of a profound knowledge that all religious text are male.

For the past couple months I've been toying with the idea of giving up all foods that are banned by all major religions.
Due to my proximity to Muslims and in the name of religious sensitivity I have given up eating pork. But I was wondering what each religion considers wrong to eat?

why is murder is wrong, but killing is fine, even if you join the army and invade a country, it is premedatated....is it just because it isn't personal? so serial killing is fine?
there's more than one god (Deu 8:19)
The devil must be as powerful as god, or in league with him, otherwise he would have defeated him
