For all religious, and non-religious: would you denounce what you believe in to save your own life? Why or why not?

(Luke 17:33)
"Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it."

If I were to answer that quite honestly now I am not sure. I would like to think that I would, and as a Christian I need to be willing to.

However, I would not throw my life away just to become a martyr. For instance, if someone points a gun at me, or even if multiple people do, I'm not gonna just sit there like a pansy and be like "oh shoot me I dare you!".

If they ask if I'm a Christian before shooting, I'd be like.... "Yes"... and then I'd take on as many as I can before dying lol. I would not kill them, but I would protect my life as best as I could. We are commanded to take care of our earthly shells as well. So this is what I would do.

I should go back into TKD training... my signature move is a flying kick, which you don't really properly learn for a long time, but it's fun! Anyways!!! Sorry to get off subject. So yeah, I would be willing in the end to die for my faith.

I would die rather than do something I know to be a greivous sin against my own faith for which I could not repent in my lifetime. I would die before killing a person, but not an animal I wouldn't sell out my ideals just to live. I would rather be remembered as a man who died for my own convictions than a sellout, but the stakes would have to be significant.

For example it would more likely come down to choosing not to do what my employer wants knowing I might lose my job. not much in this world is life or death any more.

As a Christian I would like to think that I would have the faith to stand up and say that I am a believer of Jesus in the risk of death. I have risk my job before but thats nothing compared to the little girl Colorado who stood up and was killed for admitting she was a Christian, what a powerful witness that was, Doesn't Jesus say that there is no greater gift than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends, wow, Jesus died on the cross laying down his life for us, when he arose he washed away our sins, what an awesome God he is, have you ever been saved, have you ever bowed your head and said the sinners prayer accepting Jesus as Lord of your life, if not you can do so right now, just pray this, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am a sinner in need of salvation, I believe you died on a cross and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this with a sincere heart you are now born again and a child of the King. Believe it, find a Church and read your Bible. If you have any questions send me an email, God Bless YOU!

Yes I am willing, I went to NYC right after 9/11 with the Red Cross and there were things in the air there that were toxic, even though we wore protective gear it could have killed me but I went as a Christian, and was ready for whatever the Lord had for me there.

I can say Yes I would die for my faith or rather for my Lord. But I am like some of the others to be totally honest I can't say what my flesh would do if actually faced with the reality of dying. For my children Yes. I like to believe I would as willing lay down my lowly life as Jesus did His precious one.I do agree that we do die to life (flesh) daily if we chose to live for the Lord.

If something I believe in is one of my preferences, it is not worth dying for. However, if one of my beliefs is a conviction, then it is worth dying for. Preferences are things like wearing something that covers me from my neck to my knees, not smoking, not doing drugs, etc. Convictions that I believe in are a literal God, Heaven and Hell, Satan, Angels, Salvation, Eternal Life, Father - Son - Spirit, etc.
When I stand before God I don't want to be ashamed. After all He did for me, the least I can do is live for Him and die for Him if the situation arises. It is the least I can do to say, "Thank you for saving my soul!"

What kind of crap is that?
"Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it" .....Therefore, if I wanna live and loose my life.
"whoever loses his life will preserve it" ...now if I die.... I preserve my life?
Doesn't make any sense to me, unless I wanna believe in the unreal.

It depends on why and who wants me to lose my life, I suppose. God gave us brains to use. I fail to see how my death would make me more useful to God. The only reason I can think of to 'die for God' would be if I believe that the Big Guy wanted me to use my own death to kill others. Now, God doesn't send doves in my window, dropping notes on my desk... but I don't really getcha. I have no desire to be a martyer for any cause. Yours included.

God has created the Universe, God is running the Universe. God will destroy the Universe. God is the Origin of Universe. God is the Destination of Universe. Spirit can neither be created nor be destroyed. It moves from one body to another. Your body dies, not spirit. Your spirit gets new body after death, based upon your actions in this life. Your target is to make your spirit pure, so that it can merge in Super Spirit (God). Remember wherever there is Happiness in Life, there will be Sorrow. To get Happiness, you must master Sorrow.

I don't want to die, of course I don't want to die, because my life is the most blessed gift from God. I don't think God expects us to "want to" die.

I still think I have a lot to accomplish, I want to raise my children, I have plans in my mind, I want to travel, I want to learn more, and so on. The verse you mentioned means that we shouldn't be attached to life too much, in a way we can't accept our own death when it comes to us. We should trust and let it go smoothly, believing we had our mission completed in the world. However, I don't think we should want to die... why the hurry?

Peace!
