These are some of the mortal ones: anger, envy, jealousy, lying, fornication, greed, committing murder, stealing, blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, missing Mass.
For a sin to be mortal, it must be of a grave matter, it must be committed with full knowledge that it is a mortal sin and it must be committed with full consent.
On the other hand, "...venial sin does not destroy charity, the principle of union with God, nor deprive the soul of sanctifying grace, and it is intrinsically reparable...it is pardonable; in itself meriting, not eternal, but temporal punishment. " ~ from the Catholic Encyclopedia.

More information is needed to reply to exactly why you'd want to know this. Generally speaking, Exodus 20 spells out the 10 Commandments. Breaking them would be sinning. The word "sin" means missing the mark. God set the mark at perfection, so anybody missing the mark of perfection has sinned. Beyond actual sins we do, everybody is born with a sin nature. Basically, if somebody tells us not to do something, we are rebellious enough (and control freak enough) to go out and do it. We are, so we would want to believe, the captain of our ship, and we fight against any others who claim that position, even if they are right. This is proof of our rebellion and pride (in the wrong sense of the word).
Since that is everybody, we all need a Savior, and Jesus has died to save those of us who receive His gift and trust Him, not only for heaven, but to break the power of sin.
There are some "gray areas" of sin, i.e., for today they would include smoking, drinking, watching R rated movies, things like that. For those things, the principle is set out in Romans 14 and 1 Corinthians 8. In Paul's day, the gray area was different, but the bottom line is that we are told that if we believe a gray area is a sin, we are to steer away from it; if we DON'T believe it is a sin, we are free to do it -- so long as we don't dissuade others from Christ by doing it. Our biggest goal in this life is to bring as many people to heaven with us as we possibly can, in any loving way possible.

Why worry about sins? And who says this is a sin or that is a sin? This whole thing does my head in. I was on a train last month and many of us passengers witnessed a man doing the unthinkable with a certain farm animal. No word of a lie. Was that a sin? Surely its up to the individual.
This shame thing that religion instills in people is appalling.
Obviously this man was way over the top, but still, if he believed he wasn't then that's up to him.
Too many people come on answers afraid to even breathe for fear of retribution. What a terrible way to live!!!!

Sin is plural. It means to fall short of Gods standards. That can be done in many forms but the all comes out in one word...'PRIDE'. We still, kill, want, hate, fight, rape, abuse etc all under the banner of pride and thus we we sin. All sin is the same to God. If we steal an apple or we kill a person we sin and God punishes us the same. Sounds unfair...not when you realise that the Lord God demands 100% perfection from each and every one of us. For instance if you did a test and the pass was 100 and you got 99 and I got 5, who's past? The same goes with God's standards.
Did you know that nothing humans can do can stop ourselves from sinning? Its a fact. For thousands of years people have tried and failed miserably. The Bible says that 'The wages of sin is death...' Romans 6 verse 23. This means because we sin we die, but it also means that we are eternally separated from God. Also it means that not one of us can go to heaven with sin in our life, because we are all guilty. Romans 6 verse 23 says 'All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." So how do we get rid of sin? Is it possible? The answer is......??? Do you want to know? Email me and I will tell you if its possible.

I think there is only one and that is doing harm to someone. The other silly ones put about by various religions are just ways to make you feel guilt so they can maintain power over you

"He (Jesus) went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' "
Mark 7:20-23
"Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them."
Romans 1:28-32
"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."
I Corinthians 6:9-11
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them." II Timothy 3:1-5
"The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."
Galatians 5:19-21
