Im asking this partially because I have no idea what to tell my 4 and 5 year old sons regarding their uncle who has passed. I cant very well say he went to heaven because they dont know heaven. I dont want to say he went to sleep and didnt wake up because... well if someone told me that at age 5 I would never go back to sleep.. Any ideas?

It seems to me that belief is the result of the combination of desire and knowledge.

If we do not choose what we want or know, should we be held accountable for our beliefs?

Someone recently posted the above question as an answer ... Are there still people who believe this canard? Why aren't the 14% of atheists in the US going on a murder rampage as we speak?

The Christians on R and S are not out trying to change laws or invade anyone's beliefs. We are here to testify of the good news of salvation and Jesus' precious gift to the world. Christians what does this scripture mean to you?

Isaiah 61
The Good News of Salvation
1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me,
Because the LORD has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;

This is GODS book. He supposedly inspired people to write it, and yet when I point out obviously disturbing or wrong passages, some people say, "Well that passage was added to later on after died. He did not mean for this verse to be there."

Ok, this is a very easy cop-out. It brings up the validity of the entire Bible itself, especially if God was only there for the inspiration part. The Bible as you know it could be completely false according to this excuse...

Why would God go to such great lengths to create this book, only to allow men to add and subtract to it at will? I know, man has free-agency, blah blah. Would God allow a single man to change parts of His book that would be around for thousands of years, and lead millions of followers down the wrong path?

What do you think of this theory?
"Earth was without form, void; darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."
Genesis 1:2-13 depicted in few words vivid images of an early earth, and the slow evolutionary process that went on as the new planet cooled and the new sun began stoking its fires, spewing light and warmth out into the surrounding heavens.
NASA
Scientists believe that supernovae created all the elements, such as iron, gold, and uranium, found on earth and have been detected in objects outside the solar system. Also, there is evidence that some high-energy cosmic rays originate in supernovae

The ancients/ Mayans had a means of detecting supernovas the instant they occured, anywhere in the galaxy. When one happened that was so big it caused *something* to happen on Earth, The trick was the invention of a calendar that began on the year of the supernova (3113BC) and ended on the year it will become visable

For example, I recently noticed that the Dalai Lama is called "His Holiness." However, Buddhists do not believe in a deity. What makes him holy if there is no supernatural being to back it up?

What is holiness to you? Where does it come from?

David praises God, and encourages to trust him.

If we hope to spend eternity in praising God, it is fit that we should spend much of our time here in this work. He never said to any one, Seek ye me in vain. David's prayers helped to silence his fears; many besides him have looked unto the Lord by faith and prayer, and it has wonderfully revived and comforted them. When we look to the world, we are perplexed, and at a loss. But on looking to Christ depends our whole salvation, and all things needful thereunto do so also. This poor

man, whom no man looked upon with any respect, or looked after with any concern, was yet welcome to the throne of grace; the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The holy angels minister to the saints, and stand for them against the powers of darkness. All the glory be to the Lord of the angels. By taste and sight we both make discoveries, and have enjoyment; Taste and see God's goodness; take notice of it, and take the comfort of it. He makes all truly blessed that trust in

him. As to the things of the other world, they shall have grace sufficient for the support of spiritual life. And as to this life, they shall have what is necessary from the hand of God. Paul had all, and abounded, because he was content, Php 4:11 to 18. Those who trust to themselves, and think their own efforts sufficient for them, shall want; but they shall be fed who trust in the Lord. Those shall not want, who with quietness work, and mind their own

business. (Ps 34:11-22)

Four years ago, my mother in law shamed me for not being a christian. In a way it was a blessing because it made me stronger in my own beliefs. I also went through having resentment towards christianity and feel like I have come out the other side of it having more tolerance, acceptance and understanding for christians and others. That little bit of shame changed my life significantly...

Why is it that the so-called conservative Republican party seems to have more "sinful" homosexual behaviors amongst those elected from its party than the Democratic party?

Is this simply my perception or is it objectively correct?

I'm not anti-gay (which is why I put "sinful" in quotes) but the Republican platform is, and I wonder why so many seemingly homo- and bi-sexuals appear to gravitate toward a party that does not support their sexuality.

(Posting this in R&S for two reasons: a) more active responses here and b) the Republican platform is largely based on Christian beliefs/dogma)

To anyone who believes they "have no sin" and do not believe in God of course the Gospel is not going to be good news to them. If it is good news to you that you are going nowhere when you die then I respect your right to believe that. But, do you really think that is Good News?

Is it Good News if all the Chrisitans go away and all the churches close down? if so why, what is your reason? What have Christians ever done to you? Specifically I mean.

I can tell you what non-Christians did for me, they led me down a lot of paths that did not help me in life. I can remember being a victim of violent crime, being sent to a Free counselling place where lesbians hit on me and no answers were given to heal me. Jesus healed me not man. Although I did try every path "man" had to offer in the way of comfort and healing. See my belief is based on personal exp.

My only hope is anyone who comes here, will not make their decision about whether God exists, based on what they experience at RS

If it were a choice y would there be an initial feel of shame. Y would people chose to be something and then try to hide. So it must not be a choice. It must be something that is predetermined. If it is predetermined, then that means god made them that way. And since god is infallible then being gay can't be wrong.

For example murder, stealing, sexual immorality, drunkedness, and homosexuality are listed as sins that will send you to hell. Why is it that some people, Bible beleiving people, wish to exclude some of these sins as being bad?
