I feel atheism is very sensible. But I can't find a suitable explanation for a particular event in my life. Other events have happened that some would term 'supernatural', but this is the only one I cannot provide a suitable explanation for.

Some time ago I became a born-again Christian through a relationship with one. I visited, with someone close to me, a healing session led by an evangelist. His name is Jonathan Conrathe if you want to look him up. I didn't overly like the man, but he was good at speaking.

In his team of healers and evangelists were two women. I wear glasses and went up to the main guy to get my eyes healed. I had all the faith in the world. It didn't work. Anyway, this person who is very close to me was approached by these two women. I am running out of space, but her 'twisted spine' and lifelong backache was healed. It remains healed today. And she had no faith, she hated anything supernatural. Any non placebo-effect explanations?

That the bible and christianity is a sham. I understand that you believe it is the truth - that's why I said 'pretend'.
What would be the hardest thing to accept? That you were worshipping a god that doesn't exist? That you don't have an immortal soul and this life is all there is?
Thoughts, please.

If it is... can ANY of it be considered as true? All powerful men are liars and their works must also be considered untrue.

The bible was NOT given to human beings by god.
It was written by romans. Written to hold the governed masses in fear. It was written to allow the emperor to tighten the hold on "his" empire.

So, christians.... is it man made, and therefore a lie, or did it come from the stars or heaven or whatever?

You KNOW. it was written by a guy dont you?

I always sit next to my bf in his vehicle and get out on his side. We were on a date, after newly becoming bf & gf, when I got out of the car, we kissed and our noses let off a huge vibrant spark. It was baby blue in color, large in size and it was so strong we felt it all through our bodies. That has never happened to either one of us. I know if you drag your feet on a carpet or etc it creates a spark, but it wasn't the same feeling as that. I've always wondered if it meant anything. Our relationship is the best that either of us has ever had. Does anyone have any theories?

Funny question, but I'd seriously be interested in knowing First Hand about Xenu, the electro-cleansing, the aliens in the volcano and how it all works together. Just the Scientology 101 version would satisfy me.

Why all the hush hush?

Don't say The Bible if you are Christian. I am asking for sources OTHER THAN YOUR RELIGIONS.

If God exists, then why would you still believe in God when he causes so much pain and tragedy to good people? It can't be that he is just testing their faith, becuase he continues to cause pain to those people.

This is what caused me to lose what little faith I had at one point in my life, and I just don't understand why people would still believe and have faith in him.

As Christians we strive to follow Christ's teachings. We want to help others and do God's work. But quite often we may be doing things just because - deep down - we think we will gain favor with God. We also might be trying to gain favor with those around us. Indeed, when doing some good works, public recognition is unavoidable. (Of course, a Christian should always try to conceal their charitable efforts and contributions from everyone)

But my question is basically this: if we try to do God's work, and do things in His name, just because we think it will get us into heaven, then are we REALLY doing God's work?

I was raised Catholic. I practice New Orleans Voodoo - which puts a lot of emphasis on the Catholic Saints.

Some say that practicing the way I do is a form of Idolatry.

However, if you aren't supposed to ask the saints for help, what are their purpose?

In Voodoo, you pray to the saint that can best help you out with your specific problem. That is why we have patron saints, right? Why is it idolatry if done in the context of New Orleans Voodoo, but not in the Catholic church?

If there are any Mormons here, why do Mormons (Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Days Saints) keep so clean? I wish main stream Christianity would be a bit more like the Mormons.

London, Germany, Albania...These are real places. This is a fact.

The first book warned of an approaching war, a Chosen One was prophesied. This all came true in the seventh book.

The lessons of courage, friendship, and love resonate in our daily lives.

The author explains how many people have witnessed this magic. There are story about magic from nearly every culture.

Yet you still doubt it? Why?

History has shown that those who first spread their religion though love, will spread it by the sword when they have the power to do so.

When a group teaches its way is better than anyone elses way they are going to imply that everyone else is inferior.

And when that happens people can rationalize doing terrible things.

My daughter had to pick colleges. As the "all knowing parent", I already knew she would she would want to choose a college away from home and in a big city (we live in a small town in the South). Now it was NOT my personal preference for her but I told her, she was free to choose.

It's not my giving her the freedom to chose itself that makes it free will. It's FREE will because I NEVER laid a guilt trip or promise a reward for choosing my preferred college. Nor did I threaten punishment if she didn't choose my preferred college.

According to the Oxford Dictionary; Free will is not only freedom from inevitable fate but the ability to choose without necessity or constraint. If a choice is coerced or bribed it is NOT freewill. I didn't like my daughter's choice but I know her respect and love for me grew because I let her choose freely. She never expected or feared a repercussion from me.

Do you think this is the correct definition of free will? If not, why not?

For instance a plane crash. "Thank God I wasn't on that flight".
Of course 150 other people died.

Or you drive home, see smoke, pull into your block and see it's your neighbors house burning to the ground. Do you say "Thank God it wasn't my house".

Doesn't that mean you wish and pray that the worse things to happen, if thay are to, to other people. Doesn't that make you selfish? Ashamed?

Exodus

21:20 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.

21:21 Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.

So according to the bible it's okay with God if you slowly beat your slaves. After all, they are your money. Just make sure that they survive at least a day or two after the beating.

Then isn't it then ironic that MLK Jr. was able to gain momentum as a Christian preaching for civil rights and equality in the post slavery era.

This seems to show how society determines its own morals of the times relatively independent of the bible, which is claimed to be a book which is inerrant and perfect.

Isn't this proof the bible was not really divinely created and simply written by humans during a time when barbaric practices were acceptable, and therefore its not the true word of god?
