Penecostal is not a religion it's just a denomanation. Penecostal are people who believe in living a holy life. As the word of GOD says. And that can only be done is by being filled with the holy spirit. When the holy spirit come into you a person will speak in tongue to those who believe. Just as on the day of pentecost in the book of acts. First the people in the upper room, then 3,000 added after Peter preached the first message and had the first alter call so to say. Telling everyone that was there to repent,be baptism in jesus name, and you will recieve the gift of the holy ghost. Yes salvation is a gift don't get it swisted. There are gift of tongues but the inital baptism of the holy ghost are tongue also don't be decieved people. That's what satan want's you to believe. Just because a person felt the presents of GOD doesn't mean you were filled with the spirit of GOD. Tongues is a sign that you were filled. Anything thing else is false and incomplete doctrine. Remember GOD said that there would be false prophets, teacher, and preachers in the last day. Notice St Paul said in the book of 1Cor 2:14 (But the natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of GOD for they are foolishness unto him neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. There is a story in the bible about a man and his family name Cornelius which were feared GOD and had religion, but still were not saved. Until Peter preach the gospel and they spoke in tongue. And if you read the whole story you'll notice that Peter said they recieve the holy ghost the same way they got it on the day of pentacost. Queastion, how would you know if your fellow member in a church were filled if GOD didn't give us a sign. So many church just say quote the sinners prayer and ask GOD to come into your heart then your saved. That is not biblically sound doctrine. Personally I don't thing pentecostal is the church over any other denomanation. But they preach the correct doctrine of salvation. For the promise is unto you and to your children, and to all that are afar off. (off meaning lost)
Penecostal is not for the person that think they can get into heaven at the strait gate.

There are 2 types of Pentecostals there are the ones who beleive in the trinity then there are the Apostolics/Pentecostals/Apostolic-Pentecostals that beleive in oneness and when you receive the holy ghost you speak in tounges as evidence(there all the same) which are the original ones and the church was formed on the day of Pentecost about 7 days after christ rised from the grave! Ive been a pagan for 15 years of my life but the last year and 6 months ive been Apostolic-Pentecostal, I was baptized Aug 30 2006 and received the holy ghost and spoke in tounges in december, What I like about this religion is everything from speaking in tounges to girls not cutting there hair is backed up by scriptures. Unlike religions like catholics where they have no scriptures to back up there doctorines and everything they do is a man made ritual, The pentecostal is the right and true religion in my opinion because they obey the bible and teach from the bible and do not do one thing the bible saids you shouldnt, Most of the churches are Christ centered and family focused as well

I'm not a member so this is from the outside looking in.
Pentecostal is a Christianity based religion that is separated from others primarily through a practice they call speaking in tongues. In this use, tongue simply means language. They believe that the Holy Spirit speaks through people by making them speak in a language they don't know. They get up in front of the church and start mumbling and babbling until something sounds like a language and then the teacher claims it was some specific language and tells everybody what was said.
If you read about the tongue of Pentecost, it is clear in scripture that men spoke and everybody present heard what was said as if the speaker was perfectly fluent in their language and dialect. In other words, all people present heard the message that was said only once as if it was only in their own language. You can see how this would be proof of God's power. Members of Pentecostal churches believe they are seeing this power because they don't understand the simple description of what took place.
It is impossible that words spoken in the tongue of Pentecost need to be translated to any listener. If any who hears does not understand perfectly, it was not the tongue of pentecost. Read it in scripture and see if you agree...

There are different types of Pentecostals, but two main divisions. Trinitarian Pentecostals (Assemblies of God for example), share the same basic theology as other Christian churches, but believe in the infilling of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit in operation. Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostals believe that Jesus was the One God in flesh, follow the plan of salvation found in Acts 2:38, believe that receiving the Holy Ghost is part of salvation, and that speaking in tongues is the initial evidence of that experience. Some Apostolic churches have strict dress and behavior codes, but not all.

I go to a pentecostal Holiness church...
Pentecostal is not a religion it is a denomination.....and we believe what it written in the bible...same as all churches that follow gods word.
Everyone was created equal.......Everyone can go to heaven if they accept Christ and repent of their sins.
I don't know if other churches believe in speaking in tongues but I know Pentecostal churches do...........Pentecostal are
no greater than any other denomination.... besides the only thing that matters when you die is the answer to the question (are you saved)
Before I came to the church I am in now I was about 4 or 5...I am now thirteen.
Pentecostal people are Christians just like ..methodest...babtist and so on .......
I would say to go to the church that god leads you to. ^^ bye god bless.

Seriously, there are actually many types of "Pentecostals".
The most accurate and "original" are Apostolic Pentecostals. I'm not talking about a denomination, such as United Pentecostal Church, or Pentecostal Assemblies of the Word, etc. but a relationship with God.
You'll probably have many peeps who will quickly bash Pentecostalism, but trust you me, as a testimony, being Apostolic Pentecostal is as close to living, believing, walking like the bible as you can get.
Main belief difference is this; we believe literally the New Testament born again exprience...
All the works of salvation originate in God's grace, are purchased by Christ's blood, and come to us through faith in Christ. Furthermore, all four occur when we repent, are baptized in the name of Jesus, and are filled with the Holy Spirit. Thus our study has reaffirmed two basic truths: (1) salvation is by grace through faith and (2) both water baptism and Spirit baptism are part of the salvation experience.
If people have faith and are taught to expect the Spirit baptism at the time of water baptism, it will happen just as it did in the days of the apostles. Either they will be baptized in Jesus' name and receive the Spirit when they come up out of the waters of baptism (Acts 19:1-6), or they will receive the Spirit and immediately obey the command to be baptized in Jesus' name (Acts 10:44-48).
In view of this, we have based our discussion on the typical case of one who repents, is baptized in water, and is baptized with the Spirit, all at the same time. It is marvelous to see how God has designed it so that all the various aspects of salvation will be fulfilled when we obey the simple message of John 3:5 and Acts 2:38.

Pentecostalism is a movement within Evangelical Christianity that places special emphasis on the direct personal experience of God through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, as shown in the Biblical account of the Day of Pentecost. Pentecostalism is similar to the Charismatic movement, but developed earlier and separated from the mainstream church. Charismatic Christians, at least in the early days of the movement, tended to remain in their respective denominations.

if you want to have a great time in church praising the Lord the way you feel led, you like good worship music, and being around genuine kind people you will love the pentecostal church. pray to God to lead you to the right church and don't take what man has to say -wether it be a pentecostal church or not. go to the word
(this is an answer i gave to a similar question posted right now and answer from another person.)
a pentecostal is a christian who takes the bible literally and follows it the best of their ability, and that you should put God first in your life. pentecostals believe that God still heals people, forgives their sins, looses people from addictions, fills them with the holy ghost as promised in the book of acts, and we believe that it is our responsibilty to get the word out to others.
nobody answered this question right except carly sue i am pentecostal so i think i would know what it is we believe in modesty, god's plan for us , the holy ghost , being baptisted in the name of jesus christ , and pretty much to love god and obey his word we also don't judge people for the things they do but for who they are

Well, you've gotten 3 answers so far and not a one is correct. The best thing to do is go to one and see if that is for you. Pentecostals believe or at least used to believe in women not cutting their hair, dressing in modest and godly clothing and is one of the more strict religions as to do's and don'ts. There are different styles of them just like all denominations and you need to visit several different styles of these churches. I have, in the last 40 years, seen good ones and bad one so you should make you own choices based on your experiences and what you feel it correct. As always in life, take everything with a grain of salt as they are not always what they appear to be.
