My Dad was a bishop.
I learned that it gave our family blessings but it did not make me more special than others my age (a hard lesson learned).
When I look back on my life there is so much to be embarrassed about.

congrats to your family and what an incredible blessing it is. My dad has served in 4 different bishoprics and so while growing up I knew what its like to hear a daddy bishop get ready at 5am Sunday mornings for an early meeting for many many years. Not to mention 3 days or more at the church house every week for meetings and ward related activites like MIA and Seminary. Oh and did he take us to Seminary every morning! My dad has never ever been late to a meeting--those are things that I'll always remember and treasure about my dad. He says if you're not 15 minutes early- you're late. My dad also worked construction which is a very strenuous back breaking job, but I never seen him a day tired. To me that is amazing with all the demands going on in his life church, family, and work. He also always had time for each of us kids. The Lord keeps his servants alive, healthy, and happy when they do his will.
In my family we've had 4 bishops, 1 stake president, and 2 high councilman. My dad is now a high councilman in our stake. Dads are great. The gospel is amazing and its always humbling to serve the Lord no matter what capacity you are called to. I am a Sunday School Teacher and love everything about my calling. Youre bling blingin'- here is your star!

I have ancestors who were Mission Presidents, Stake Presidents and Bishops but none in my near ancestry. My Dad and brother were both High Counselors and HP Group Leaders. I am a grandfather stuck in the Elder's Quorum. I guess I haven't learned what I am supposed to learn yet.

Wow! Congrats! I bet that was a big surprise.
We had a big surprise this Sunday too... Our Bishop was released and my visiting teacher's husband (a young guy) is now the Bishop. I know him and the new bishopric will make a great team!
Rats! You just reminded me that I forget to tell my less-active friend the good news about our Bishop (I just came back from visiting her). :-) Thanks for the reminder.
P.S. SOB, LOL.
EDIT: OH yeah, no-one in my family has been a bishop.

Congrats, you may be a Bishop one day...you never know.
I just got a calling too, and when the 2nd counselor in the Bishopric phoned me to set up an appointment to see me...my first thought of what I didn't want to be called into...ended up being my calling. I still happily accepted of course.
So be careful what you don't wish for, I guess...
My husband and I were married by his grandfather in the temple. That's pretty important I think, not a Bishop or Stake President, but certainly high up there in the "totem" pole.

Say goodbye. He's going to be really busy.
My dad was a bishop and 2nd councilor in the Stake Pres. Now he's a Gospel Doctrine teacher.

That's funny...SOB.
My grandpa was bishop a couple times actually and served in the High Council for a while. My step-dad was in the bishopric but never bishop (yet?)...
My husband's uncle is a General Authority...so that's kinda cool.

My dad almost got called as the bishop once. But, due to the nature of his work, he was out of town a lot so it wouldn't make sense for him to be the bishop.
Good on your dad though!

Hey, that's so cool! Now, you have to be the example for the other Young Boys, hehe! Congrats to your dad and behave, it is "special" to have the Bishop living in your own house, ^_^
I think someday you'll be Bishop too... I hope it is in a Singles Ward, these wards seem to be cool :P
