If God exists, then why would you still believe in God when he causes so much pain and tragedy to good people? It can't be that he is just testing their faith, becuase he continues to cause pain to those people.

This is what caused me to lose what little faith I had at one point in my life, and I just don't understand why people would still believe and have faith in him.

let me say dont judge jesus to quickly,if he thought our way he would not be a very big god would he..please spend some alone time with him and i promise he will meet you half way.he undersatand your thought about him and he dosent condem you,he just wants you to meet him so he could explain himself, problem is we just never give him a chance.hes not just floating up there with no plans, seek them out, just give him some time and tell him how you feel, that he will help you see in a differant view, trust me he works....were not all nuts .
my prayer is that jesus will touch you rite now,and soften your heart, that you will give him a chance.

God does not cause pain. Satan does!! Im sure you have heard the story of Adam and Eve..This world was perfect until Adam and Eve sinned, therefore the consequences have passed on to us. Pain is just part of the consequences of our many mistakes as human beings. God doesnt force us to do good, we are given the option of following him or not. However, we need to understand that while we live in this dirty world we will experience losses, tragedies, pain etc. but we must have hope because there is a better place. God is preparing a better place for each and everyone who decides to follow him, and in this better place there will be no pain and satan will not be able to lay a hand on anybody. God Bless You....

Have you ever stopped to think that there are people who did suffer and still remained faithful? That there are people who lost so much in their lives and have been through a lot of pain and suffering but still are faithful to God! That God does love and speak to people and they believe in the things that he can do because he does help people and heal people? Well, it's what happened to me. My own life is testimony of what God can do.

I sympathize with your pain. As a Christian, I know that God did not promise anyone an easy path, and actually, it would seem quite to the contrary. Jesus said to his disciples "In this world you will have tribulation." He also promised them that they would be hated, imprisoned, and killed for His name. Believers in God have very often suffered torture and death for their faith. Personally, I would consider myself "good people"; but I wouldn't call my life easy or devoid of tragedy by a long shot. Some Christians I know DO have pretty happy, rewarding, good lives; I'd be lying if I told you that I didn't envy them. Biblically, the Apostle Paul suffered immensely as perhaps the worlds greatest evangelist, and said that his life was a pattern for the godly! Just one more reference, please bear with me-Hebrews, chapter 11 gives a long list of Heroes-exceptional people-of faith. Some of these were rewarded with great physical triumph and success in this life. Others were tortured, imprisoned, beaten, forced to wander in the wilderness places of the earth, stoned, persecuted-yet all alike were regarded faithful. Like it or not, you-and I-would love to have easier lives, and even deep faith in God will not guarantee that in this life-but it will, in any case, surely guarantee that in the next, which lasts eternally. Hope this helps. In Christ, Buffalo.

I believe, but I should tell you: I don't believe that God causes pain and tragedy. Pain and tragedy are never part of God's plan. Why he allows it -- that's a question I don't know the answer to. It's been debated for centuries and it's not likely to be answered here on YA today.

But I believe in God because of personal experiences I have had, that led me to believe I met somebody who loves me very intensley and steadily. Somebody that is beyond my emotions and psychology. Somebody who I am aware of when I'm still and focused.

It takes more than believing to continue in the good fight of faith sweetie. God doesn't cause people pain and add grief. We do that to ourselves. Or we do it to eachother. It's like saying guns kill people... Well, thats silly... People kill people with guns. It's not the gun's fault the person pulling the trigger is ignorant. God gives us grace and mercy. He offers us a second, third, fourth, ect chance... He is love. Our minds cannot comprehend God's greatness... It's when we look at ourselves and put God on our level, and try to explain God, that we begin to question God. But... God is God... Even in the midst of it all!

All pain and tragedy you or anyone else has is not because of God its because of satan. People create pain for themselves. Satan lures them and they get caught by him and then later on they suffer. God Loves us. God only gives us love and blessings. Why do we nee to have faith in God? Not because just by keeping blind faith he will do all good things for us..but to guide ourselves to keep ourselves on track to save ourselves from satan, to have a self control. We get confidence through GOD and that confidence is the true confidence which will take us on the right path. Remember u r not gonna get nething without trying. Try try until u suceeed. I have seen couples who lost thr child at very young age and they blame God for that and lose faith in him. I must say that these people never had faith. Its satan who did wrong things so that they would lose faith in God and thats what they did and they helped satan to win over God. God is offering love..he really cares for you..just think that he is there to protect you no matter what..dont make all bad things tht satan causes lose your faith in God. Trust me. I have experienced it. God bless.

Pain and tragedy in life are mostly caused by people, not by God.

God gave us dominion over this world, so whatever bad things happen are our responsibility.

It's understandable to question, doubt, or even blame God for the terrible things that happen in this life. Just remember that in the human person Jesus, God made Himself one with our suffering.

Jesus, of course, suffered. (To get an idea of how much He suffered, watch "The Passion of the Christ.") He also, undoubtedly, saw other people suffer and die during the course of His earthly life.

So did His blessed mother. She surely saw other people get sick, and suffer, and die, and experience mistreatment. She also witnessed the unjust execution of her Son. She knows all about human misery and suffering; she experienced it up close.

So, God is not some distance diety who is indifferent to our suffering, or who just uses it to test us. In the person of the Son Jesus, He's been there and done that. So has His mother, which is why both of them can be looked to when we need help on life's often-painful journey.

That little word "if" that you start your question with is the place to start as it leads to many different thoughts trying to rationalise what 'God' is and what 'God' means - you need to keep with that as the longer you ponder it the more insight you'll gain until the Light dawns, and you Know the Truth - you won't find it in any conventional scripture or in the words of religious folk, as the real Truth comes from the Source and the Key to Knowing is within you.

When does God cause pain or tragedy to anyone? Human pain comes from many sources. From our own sin (I commit fornication and contract AIDS - is that God's doing?). From the sins of others (A child gets killed in a crosssfire between rival gangs - is that God's doing?) . From ordinary human weakness (I trip and fall down the stairs - is that God's doing?) From the laws of nature (I build my home near the seashore and a Tsunami washes it all away - is that God's doing?) Why do people never thank God for any of the blessings in their lives, yet are ready to blame Him for any suffering they have to endur? Does God owe us anything? Is there some reason why we should expect to live our lives free of suffering, when God Himself allowed Himself to be brutally tortured and murdered for our sake?

GOD Created the Earth and put Mankind on it.
GOD made a Contract with Mankind to Rule and Reign on the Earth with GOD Helping Mankind to Learn How, Contract was for 6,000 Years.
Adam Kicked out GOD (legally) from the Earth.
Adam opened the "Legal" door to Earth for satan.

satan Kills, Steals and Destroys.

GOD has to Wait Till contract is up, befor HE can come back and Rule and Reign on the Earth PERSONALLY.

GOD don't Break HIS Own contracts.
