Is there a verse in the bible that states that?

If there is a Catholic whose answers you enjoy and find informative, someone who consistently gives proper Church teaching.... Now is your chance to list his or her name and give a brief explanation of why you chose this person.

I thought this would be a wonderful way to encourage our brothers and sisters, letting them know how much we appreciate them in this forum.

PLEASE STAR this question so that all of our fellow Catholics can find it, and those whom you honor will most likely see it.

I took a class in College about the book of Acts. I remember how it was the second part of a two part series which Luke was writing (the first one being the gospel of Luke). I also remember my professor explaining how since Acts was the second part, Luke may have had to shorten it since the papyrus (or whatever it was that he was using to write ont) was expensive and he was running out of room, as he's already written the gospel of Luke prior to wrting the Acts of the apostles. My question is, has anyone heard anything similar regarding Luke having to shorten/perhaps paraphrase a lot of the book of Acts b/c he had limited space to write on? If so, could you please give me a source?

Given the state of the world, if there is indeed an omnipotent being who is responsible for creation, then it seems as if this being does really like us all that much.

I do not believe in a god or heaven or hell. I can't tell anyone I know because I live in the Bible belt and they would crucify me. I was just wondering how scary is it to think that when you die that’s it. Nothing; finished; done; end. It scares the hell out of me. Also I wish nothing more for there to be a heaven. That would be great. I just can't believe something like that.

P.S. I don't want a debate I just want to know if it scares the hell out of people.

I have great respect for the guy, and while I don't agree with all his conclusions and approaches, I think he does a lot of good. That said, a number of folks on here have commented that he is perhaps a bit harsh on the more "harmless" beliefs out there. Do you agree?

For the very first time. It was a lovely time. I was welcome and even though I just wore a pair of jeans and a t shirt and lots of the girls and others were very smart. I got invited after the church to have some coffee and introduced me to lots of others and then even i got invited a long to a familys house for roast dinner yesterday. It was so friendly. They invited me around whenever I like and though i shouldnt intrude Its lovely to know. I even also am to go to chiore group tonight at 6 a clock and sing and meet new friends.

I am all alone usually cos i left my foster house and i never met mum or dad..and im 16 so its nice that people care. I was afriad to go cos people were saying no its a cult, but i dont think it was. And they told me jesus does love me and not hate me like i thought.

thank you to the people who told me to go i loved it.

I have learned bigger churches pay this, even mainstream denominations. Many pastors even specifically request a salary of at least $70,000+ I have heard.

In a society with so much poverty, and a difficult economy do pastors really need to be paid this much?

I know of one pastor of a mainstream denominational church in a large city (Southern Baptist I believe it was) that makes over $200,000, and drives a Mercedes-Benz.

Is there something not wrong and materialistic about this? In a society with poverty, in a world where 30,000 children die a DAY from poverty-related conditions (Disease, Starvation, etc.)

For some reason I feel like ministers are particularly accountable for at least trying to be less worldly than others, living by example if they can, am I wrong?

I don't mean to be fake or try to be perfect, but there seems to be something wrong with this.

I was wondering what the religious people think of the news this last week, the massive earthquake killed 200 people in a church, but knocked down a prison wall and released 250 desperate criminals? Why do you think a perfect God would do such a horrible unjust thing?

Or even restricted to disallowing those actions that could cause POSSIBLE harm to another human being? Notice that I am not talking about harming one's self (e.g. illegal drugs, not wearing a seatbelt, etc.), but harming others or causing harm to others indirectly through our actions (e.g. promiscuous sex, driving drunk, etc.).

I am asking this in the context of no religious intervention. This is not about what God says is proper behavior but what humans deem proper behavior. As it was stated to me: "Right and wrong are another matter. Those of us who don't believe in God and sin, usually view right and wrong in terms of benefit and harm to our fellow human beings. This can be figured out by ourselves, without some cosmic figure telling us what it is."

Tonight on tv there was a report about a bible based theme park.
I think this is wrong. We recived the word for free we should give for free. Some may say it helps spread the word of god but I don't think we need gimmicks like this.Jesus got angry at the money changers at the temple.
Commercialism of the bible what do you think ?
I would be interested in all views christian or not.
