Dazey,
The easiest way to pray is to just say the Lord's prayer... it was a prayer he gave to his disciples when they wanted to know how to pray.
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who tresspass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Basically you're letting God know that you know he's in charge and you are letting him be in charge (Thy will). Next, you are asking him to provide your daily needs. Also, asking Him for forgiveness and to help you forgive others. Finally, you ask Him to help you stay on the right path. That's what is great about the Lord's prayer... it covers it all!
Most importantly, God has 3 ways to answer our prayers.....
Yes, Yes but you must wait, and No but I've got something better for you. He does listen and He does answer, we just aren't always ready to accept His answer!
And, if nothing else, just close your eyes and open your heart, and God will hear you!

Prayer is a form of communication between you and a higher power. I personally believe there is no other higher power than God (Christian). And I don't believe prayer is like making a wish. Because I personally believe wishing is going on the hopes of probability and sometimes not realistic, whereas prayer goes on the belief that God is listening to you.

There is no formality in prayer. If anything it would be speaking heartily and truthfully with God.
The God I pray to doesn't expect you to pray in a ritualistic fashion. In every respect, prayer is all about communicating with the one you believe is your friend, father, comforter, shrink (hehe) ... and above everything else ... your God.

Does it work? In my life it has. Many confuse prayer to be a time for them to come before the so called God and pitch their wants and requests and so therefore when the answers or response they were expecting don't fall into fruition ... they get angry.

Prayer is also comforting. Kinda like getting things out instead of bottling things in.

Do you have to go to church to pray etc? Although church and prayer and believing in God go hand in hand ... no, you don't have to be at church to pray. You can be anywhere you are or want to be.

If you do choose to pray, just know that it is not a 'wish upon a star' kind of thing.
It's basically talking to your creator about anything you want.

I hope I've helped.

warning.....this will probably be a looooonnnnngggggg answer.

God is real but it's up to each individual to determine their own beliefs. people can try to persuade you to their spiritual ideas but remember, the choice is always yours. i hope you choose a path of goodness and love.

about your mum. isn't there ANYONE who can get you some details? are you adopted or are parents divorced or what? if adopted or if you're a ward of the state, once you're 18 you have the right to access your records. don't remember where, but i know of one mother who's counting on the fact that her children will find her when they're 18. she had her kids taken away by the state for neglect, while in the throws of her alcoholism.

i used to joke that i wished God could send me telegrams from the sky whenever i had a question. i was really serious. it doesn't work that way and He's not santa clause. He hasn't dropped a rolls royce out of any clouds for me.

there's so much i could share with you but i don't want to over load you all at once. i'm a christian but don't go to church anymore. my faith is stronger today than ever. i attend a prayer class every tuesday night online hat has taught me a lot. it's called 'how to get your prayers answered.' i'm not going to shove anything down your throat but if you're interested, i can send you details on how you can go too. it's for beginners and it's free.

God bless you. i'll pray for you, if that's ok with you.

OK pray if you want to and I don't think it matters how you pray.

But I would also write to someone like Cilla (if you live in the UK) or Sally Jesse Raphael (in the states).

There's more chance of making it happen then.

Good luck.

Edit:- Wanna bet? They like a challenge and you know details. You know you were left on the street at 3 months old, and probably know the area. How many mothers do you think do that? and what mother is going to forget doing it? There was probably a very good reason for doing it at the time but she's most likely regretted it ever since but doesn't know how to go about finding you now. The only way of finding her will be through a national TV network, or the like, who can put an appeal out on air for her to get in touch.

The way to pray is really a very personal thing and whilst you may see others in church perhaps practicing in a collective manner, it may not be the best for you. It is finding a very quiet place and reaching deep into your heart and asking the Universe or God or Jesus or any known deity that is real to you; and just saying what you truly feel. The place to be is where you can free and uninhibited. In my case as a nature lover it would be in a secluded spot in a wood or forest.

Blessing upon you.

Any thing you ask through Jesus's name will come true as long as it's within the Father's will..there are pre-set prayers for certain things or you can just be honest with what you want..just end with "In Jesus's name I pray" Just close your eyes and pray with your heart. It does not matter where you pray.

If you know your mom's name you can always do an intellius search, you can post it all over the Internet, here, my space..on any message board. I hope this helps, that's how we found my half brother after 32 years.

People pray in all different ways, it depends on what you find is right for you.
The most common way is to press your hands together, close your eyes and think in your mind, or say out loud what you want to say.
You could start it "Dear heavenly father" or "Dear God, please hear me as I pray"
The idea is you will be talking to God, different religions believe different things so find what you believe yourself.
You can do it any time, any day, anywhere.
As for your Mum, I wish you luck with finding her but don't expect a prayer to work just like that. If it's meant to be, it will be.

I believe that there is not a specific way to pray. Talk to God like you talk to us (people on the net.) God doesn't need fancy words or rehearsed pages from the bible. If you know specific prayers, then go ahead, but God is your friend, and he will understand you, whatever you say. God has a plan for each of us, and if his plan is for you to meet up with your mum, then it will happen in time.
You can pray anywhere. God is all around us, and knows what we are thinking always. I close my eyes when I pray, because it helps me concentrate on what I am saying. :)

Have you heard the poem called "Footprints"? It is one of my favourites.

I will keep you in my thoughts. If you ever want to talk, just eMail me.

to me its just natural. if there is a national disaster, i automatically pray "Lord, please help those people." it can even be that simple if you want. and when i pray at church with my eyes closed, its just a more serious and concentrating prayer.

its not like making a wish at all, you have to talk with God. that is what the word 'pray' means.

prayers are not always answered right away. the reason why God doesnt always answer us right when we ask Him is because He wants to know if we believe in Him enough and are serious for our prayer. God always hears us.

uhm, and really the first thing you have to make a friendship with God. if someone from school you hardly knew all of a sudden asked you to help him with his homework and play with him, you wouldnt really know him so you probably wouldnt do it. kinda sorta the same with God. if you dont really know Him, why should He answer your prayer?

God also gave us the "Lord's prayer" or the "Our Father"

i really hope you find your 'mum'. i will pray that you will find her too.

hope i helped =]

Don't pray to jesus... he doesn't hear you because he doesn't exist!! When you pray don't ask for things in your life to change or for things to be given to you. Praying should be about asking for things for other people, or for strength for yourself to deal with any situation life presents to you. It doesn't matter how you pray, in that it doesn't matter whether your eyes are open or closed, whether you talk out loud or in your head or whether you get down on your knees or not. It only matters that your prayers are reasonable. Whoever says on here that if you pray hard enough to jesus he will give you what you want is full of crap!! Jesus can't give you anything. But if you pray for strength of mind and heart enough, you will start to give it to yourself, because god is a power and a part of us all, it is part of us that we are born with that somehow gets buried deep inside as we grow up and go through bad experiences. Pray hard enough and the light that is deep inside you can be reignited. I hope you find the peace that you need x
