You either get buried or cremated.
That's all we can be sure of.

When I die, I expect that I'll be gone. My personality will disappear, my consciousness will be gone. I don't believe in an afterlife of any sort. My friends and family will remember me for as long as they live, and maybe some of the things I do will be recorded in books, stories, etc.
And that's OK with me. Billions of others have done it already, so I expect that I'll be able to also.
As to your last question - nobody on this side of the grave can truly know, no matter what they tell you. And nobody who's accomplished it has ever come back to tell US what happened. We won't know until we each get there ourselves.

Each religion, each denomination has its own answer even though many are somewhat identical.
If you believe the Bible scriptures, death is a return to nothingness. Only God may through Christ resurrect such a one. One scripture is shown here, but at the link/s below you can verify in dept what the Bible teaches.
Job 14:12,13: So man lies down and doesn't rise; Until the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, Nor be roused out of their sleep. 13 "Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, That you would keep me secret, until your wrath is past,That you would appoint me a set time, and remember me! (NJB)

Death
A Dreadful Reality!
“FROM the moment of birth there is the constant possibility that a human being may die at any moment,” wrote British historian Arnold Toynbee. He added: “And inevitably this possibility is going to become an accomplished fact.” What grief death brings upon us when it strikes a beloved family member or a close friend!

The Only Remedy!
When Jesus reaches the tomb of Lazarus, he first gives instruction to take away the stone blocking the entrance to the tomb. After praying aloud, he commands: “Lazarus, come on out!” And Lazarus comes out. The man who had been dead for four days has been resurrected.—John 11:38-44.

Hebrews 9:27 " And it is appointed unto man once to die after this the judgment ". Either the white throne of judgment for the unbelievers all being found guilty of their sins against god and being sentenced to Hell or, the judgment throne for believers on what they did for God down here on earth.

We simply cease to exist. Please read Ecclesiastes 9:5,11. King Solomon explains clearly the condition of the dead.

We don't die. We are Eternal Spirits and when we have finished this particular life experience, we return to the Creator God/dess.
