Oh please don't give me the story about New Testament. Majority people do NOT follow the BIBLE at all. People use all kind of chemicals, to eat, drink, beautifi themselvs, cleaning their homes and big stinky cars, killing flora and fauna of this earth. Do you people know that all those perfumes, chemicals going down to pipes and rivers?...AND now you are telling me about New Testament? Please, stop.

I don't see how this story is about the church gaining power or controlling anything.
the woman was not in the country legally, and did what SHE could to avoid the law. our laws are in place for reasons, and people should follow them

Children are a gift from God.
Poor people across the border are looking for better lives for their families.
Please read the beatitudes in the New Testament..
Interpretation of such news depends on one's point of view and faith life.
The immigration issue does present enormous economic and security issues for our country - this cannot be argued.
According to old World Bank stats, 89% of the world is below the poverty line.. The poverty line being an annual income of $6000 a year or much much less for most people, more like less than $600 a year.. Imagine if this 89% arrived here in the USA demanding medical care in hospital emergency rooms, demanded food stamps, shelter, et al.. The economic engine which floats the US economy would not support this at all. Once tax rates rise too high, the incentive to work harder to pay more taxes diminishes because people don't want to work to support bloated government entitlement programs - socialism does not work..
This is not an easy issue.. For affluent countries like the United States which preach "values," a real conundrum..
This is a real struggle for affluent American people of faith.. The camel eye of the needle section of the Bible.

You don't hear a peep out of these "religion brokers" about all the legitimate citizens of this country who are living below the poverty line. Noooo, you can bet that when any of them goes to church nobody does a whipround for them to help pay the utility bills or send a family member to the doctor. But they give "sanctuary" to illegal aliens who come here deliberately often to have babies just so that the child will, because of some wacky interpretation of the law, have US citizenship.
I am tired of hearing about all of the crimes being committed by illegals too -some of the worst, including murder. Next thing I expect to hear is some church giving sanctuary to one of them so the cops can't get him and try him for his crimes. The church's interference in these matters is outrageous and should be illegal. But still the authorities keep pussyfooting around any time it's a church or a "Pastor" involved. I think it is time churches and their representatives.. preachers, pastors or whatever they call themselves, to be held as fully accountable as any of the rest of us would be.

"To avoid being separated from her son" is an excuse to try and stay in our country illegally.
Which brings up another question. Why are the children born to illegals considered citizens of the US? Her son should be deported with her.
But, the church is only stating a fact in this case, however wrong that position is.

This particular church is a storefront sham catering to illegals and the services are conducted only in Spanish. The pastor, Walter Coleman, is guilty of violating Federal law [1907 Title 8, U.S.C. § 1324(a) ] and should be arrested.

Sometimes churches and their power-hungry, egotisical leadership think they are above the law. We are wimps to let them get away with it.

Yeah I live right by Chicago and had to hear that crap non stop for a long time. You think the church would not want to harbor a criminal. Yes she was a criminal I understand she wanted to be with her son but she should of filled out the paper work to be legal.

You are talking about 1 church not all churches. I think the pastor was wrong. You have to comply to the rules of the land if it is not direct against religion.

If the church doesn't respect the separation of church and state, then it should be closed and the priests arrested for harboring criminals.
