Its a touchy subject because people get offended if you question or criticise their particular religion, and people who arent religious get annoyed because theres no evidence, and they get treated as 'evil' despite how good they may be

I think the only time it becomes a touchy subject is when it gets attacked. Why not try an open mind and look to understand others instead of insulting them. That really seems to be the problem...human intolerance, NOT religion.

only reason religion is such a touchy subject is because they base their whole existence off of it and if you challenge or say something negative about their religion they most likely feel that you are challenging their very existence. I'm a Christian but I respect everyone has their own opinion and at the end of time we will find out what religion if ANY is right.

When life no longer makes sense belief in a religion becomes the only thing left to have faith in. When people talk about religion, they are talking abount the very foundations of their sanity (well whats left of it anyway). Stability is fragile. If some one questions it, well it can turn nasty.

Because religion is a personal, private thing that has been brought out into the open when it never should have been. If everyone kept their religion (or lack of ) private, we would have fewer problems.

What you believe has the ability to affect every area of your life. It can really hit home. For instance, if your mother dies and you believe she is in heaven, if someone tells you there isn't a heaven or she isn't there, it hits you personally.

When someone believes the fate of their eternal soul depends on believing a particular story, it has a way of provoking strong emotions.
