when your understanding of God in your heart is at times inconsistant with how God is portrayed in parts of The Bible?

I know some of you will be offended I'm even asking such a question. I'm hope I'm not the only one who strugges with this.

For example, in my heart, God is loving and forgiving (prodigal son story comes to mind). Yet God is not always portayed in this light in many parts of The Bible. Because of this, I have always struggled with Christianity (I have not struggled with my commitment to God.)

It seems that nowadays, many people believe that a person's religious views should never completely reflect what is taught in the bible. Instead, they throw all the values and laws from the bible in the same pot as all that we have learned from modern culture, and they see what floats.

For example, I have heard many people call themselves "Christian", but they have edited christianity to fit their own agenda. I've heard some people say: "I'm a Christian - but I believe that everyone will eventually go to heaven, I believe that homosexual acts are not sinful, and I believe that humans evolve from monkeys." What??? You beliefs and values are incompatible with Christianity, yet you call yourself a Christian!!!

I don't understand how people think they have the right to do this. It's as if everything in the bible is conditional, and needs to be changed every once in a while ... NO!! It doesn't!!

Why must people do this. It seems 'real' Christianity is harder to find these days.

Is it fair to those who plod away day after day? Perhaps Q&A point getting should be classified a sport and testing made mandatory. Any thoughts or suggestions for this totally overlooked site abuse by Type A personalities?

On a serious note; after seeing some questions on R&S tonight: Did you ever consider or take Dramamine before your session? Does it work? Help!

And the similarities between the Greek Zeus and the Hebrew Jehovah?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus

Prometheus created man out of clay. Zeus punished him and man by denying man fire.

Prometheus stole fire from Olympus and took it to man, further angering Zeus, who punished man by giving him Pandora's Box -

"When Pandora opened the box, all suffering and despair was unleashed upon mankind. Zeus had had his revenge."

Lots of parallels between the stories, except that Prometheus [Lucifer] is the good guy.

Zeus is about what you'd expect if you gave him the Jehovah ID.

Think of the benefits; we will be able to make sure pretend Christians like the Phelps’ and Benny Hinn’s etc won’t ever come along again and tarnish Christianity. And the gene that makes some Muslims radical can be isolated and removed so that they’ll all be mild mannered Muslims. I know you guys aren’t big on the whole concept of playing around with genes but this is surely a case of the end justifying the means?

Bad things always happen on earth
I think its because eve made adam eat the apple off that tree that god said not to .
but who knows that could be a meth or it could be true?
I think heaven is a place where no bad things happen and all good things happen for all of us.Nothing goes wrong we are all happy in our own unique ways. we always feel love, happiness ,safe foerever in heaven.

Which of these is the last words of Jesus. They can not all be right. According to the various gospels, he died right after saying each. Did he die three times?

Eloi Eloi lama sabachthani? ("My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?", Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34).

It is finished (John 19:30).

Father, into your hands I commit my spirit (Luke 23:46).

then it says all the good works you have done is like fithly rags to the lord. this has always confused me. and I never really know what to do.

Faith wont save me and good works wont save me, so what will? I have a lot of faith, and I try very hard to do whats right and I dont do it just to get into heaven, I do what my heart tells me to do. But since my fiancee died and a pastor told me he was in Hell because he didnt live according to the bible, I have always wondered. He was a good man and he was saved, but we did drink sometimes, and we had sex out of marriage. and I cant seem to accept that the lord would put him in Hell for that, it seems way to extreme, and I find my faith and trust in God disapearing because if it. it just seems way to cruel. I love the Lord with all my heart, but can not accept that he would put somebody in Hell for such little things. Can you help me understand this?

I think it's more likely than not.
Lokk at the size of the Bible and anyother Holy book. Look how thick those books are, only a woman would have that much to say.

Look at how incrdible a woamn's womb is, so special that even a woman with a life threatning decease has a chance to give birth to a healthy baby. Look at their breats. Theirs work ours don't.

Look at a mother compared to a father, it seems God is more motherly.

I am a Catholic but I think this is possible. I mean the bible has been changed by man, it's proven that books were excluded by the church so we can't always rely on one point of view as the truth all the time.

This is for Christians who believe in evolution. If you don't fall under this category, don't waste both our time posting in this question.

If you believe in evolution, and Genesis says God created us in his image, then is God a group of amino acids?
