Islam says to stone the rapist. And the woman is free to live her life as she normally would. This does not mean that women are killed in societies where men run things and play the victim after victimizing somebody. It means that their actions, while calling themselves Muslim in name only, are unIslamic. What is your take on this?

During the time of the Prophet (saw) punishment was inflicted on the rapist on the solitary evidence of the woman who was raped by him. Wa'il ibn Hujr reports of an incident when a woman was raped. Later, when some people came by, she identified and accused the man of raping her. They seized him and brought him to Allah's messenger, who said to the woman, "Go away, for Allâh has forgiven you," but of the man who had raped her, he said, "Stone him to death." (Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud)

Slavery is wrong.

Most people today agree, that is except for much of the Islamic world. The reason why the vast majority of the Islamic world doesnt believe slavery is wrong is because Muhammad owned slaves.

Many people get this issue confused. For example, people who arent intelligent enough to understand the implications often say "Ohh Christians had slaves, lots of em!" or "everyone had slaves, big deal".

Let me clarify for people who arent very bright. In Islam, EVERYTHING Muhammad did stands as the perfect standard of human conduct for all humans to model...forever (that includes today and tommorow). Muslims take this very seriously, ever wonder why they grow beards or wipe their "end" with their bare hand...yep...its about modeling Muhammad to please Allah.

So the reason why you will sooner find theJimmy Hoffa than find a Muslim who condemns slavery outright, is because Muhammad owned slaves, as Muslims still do today.

Can't proove that something doesn't exist if no one's decided on a definition of it yet. It's like you trying to prove that an idea I just came up with doesn't exist even though I never told you what it was.

education and/or relief of poverty provide public benefit, what will happen to religions' freedom of belief and worship if this Act is used to bleed them financially despite them doing tremendous good in society?

I work for a Christian charity that does massive amounts of social work - demented elderly, youths, drug/drink addicts, homeless etc. It does NOT prosyletise people it cares for but DOES help them due to its Christian beliefs. Imagine if someone uses the Act (saying the org. disagrees with current views on morality) so it must lose charity status. Secularists could argue it's not for public benefit by holding to Christian belief on abortion or human sexuality. Public views on morality change every year. Christian ones don't.

Yet what about religions that use charity status merely to make more money and increase membership? They exist. They need exposing but surely law should target them alone? Why use morality and public opinion as yardsticks? Hidden agenda?

from a PURELY scientific view, is it truly sensible, logical, or productive, to affirmatively say that there is NO God?

look at the amount of scientific knowlege we have. its a pretty decent amount, right? I mean a person could probably spend their whole life studying one area of it and not know everything there is to know in that field.

but, on the other hand, any honest scientist would admit that theres much more they do NOT know about any particular subject, than that which they DO know.

all our knowlege is based on the accumulation of a handful of people, over a few hundred years, on a speck of a planet among who knows how many, on the edge of one galaxy, amongst... again, who knows how many. and whos to know theres not something beyond that? or others below?
theres so much in existance that science has yet to even think about being able to look at....

its fully scientific to say that theres no evidence for God, or the afterlife. ... but to affirmatively say theres not?

What are morals other than the thoughts of our parents, friends and loved ones that have placed behind us? In order for you to be completely free and have your own morals you will need to completely free your mind and think of things unbiased and from your own perspective. The question you must ask yourself is are your morals really yours? Or is this a cunundrum in and of itself?

advice from other born again Christians. My long distance, significant other, was pretty disillusioned by his myspace last week, due to some strange experiences with people, and then one blocking him for a crazy reason. On Friday he sent us all a bulletin complaining about Christian "fairweather" friends and telling the above story about the person who blocked him. On Sunday he told me he had decided to delete his myspace as there was no point in having it. I went to see if his space was still in existence, for sentimental reasons, adn it was and to my shock he has removed me from his myspace and has blocked me from contacting him on it. Four days later, it's still there and I am not :o(

If he can not create such rock than again, he is not almighty.
