Yeah, and they like to fight dogs and cocks too. It's not about true religion, it's about the power of the mob.

I was raised in CA and have also lived in NV. Religion was really never an issue nor was it a topic of conversation. Now, I live in Nashville, TN and when we first moved here, I swear, the first thing everyone-and I DO mean everyone- asked was "what church do you go to" or "Do you have a church yet?" Religion is a daily topic- you here people talking about it everywhere. There are more churches here than I've ever seen- sometimes one on each of 4 corners. Nashville is considered the "buckle of the Bible belt" which means we are in the center of the whole mess! We are Jewish and it did pretty much get us to join a synagogue finally just so the grandkids would have some ammo when bombarded by all the Sunday school stories about Jesus they heard every day at school!

Yes it is generally true, and the name Bible belt was given to some of the southern states because they were so religious and God fearing.

I've traveled to 43 states and I'd have to agree with that.
I lived most of my life in the Chicago area which was Spiritually pretty dead when I was a child and a teen.
I've lived in Syracuse which is MORE dead than Chicago, San Diego which was better, central Illinois which was better, Missouri and Florida which are both better.
Springfield, Missouri calls itself the "Buckle of the Bible Belt", I really don't know where the rest of its located. Its not really marked on my map.

I dont think that it is necessairily that people in the so called bible belt are more religious...but I do think it is true that they are more verbal about their faith. Much of the Bible belt denominations stem from a belief system that encourages a more personal relationship with God....not merely the practice of a specific religion...i.e following the rules...going to services...sit down...stand up...kneel now etc. Although not raised in the Bible belt, I am one of those who believe that the important part is our personal relationship with God...not the church we do or do not attend. It is the difference between religion...and relationship. Religions come from man...but relationship comes from God.

A lot of people in the South certainly approach religion in a different way. I don't know that it makes them more or less religious, they just go about it differently. The Bible belt is a place you don't want to live unless you belong to a "popular" Christian church....trust me on that one.

Yes and no. I've lived in the north and the south. I've found that southerner's are more vocal about their religion but not necessarily moral. Northerners are fairly low-key about their religion, but generally intolerant of others.

Lots of little one man Church's. Lots and lots of ignorance. And just as much opinions; that are incorrect.
In my area, there are a generous sprinkling of a variety of denominations, with baptist predominant.
Few are correct in their beliefs, but unlike the northern, most people are friendly. The rest are door slammers.

That's because the south is God's Country. That's why we got collard greens, black eyed peas, and the best watermelons in the country. Fried chicken, cream Tatars, gravy, biscuits, and iced tea on Sunday, after church, and finish up with some hand cranked home made ice cream, and banana pudding.

The worst part of the stinking bilbel belt? The dry counties.
That's why I always carry 2 cases of beer and a case of wine when I drive through the south.
