What do you see as a real solution to this? The USA is unique among developed countries and we are quickly falling behind scientifically and technologically (to say nothing of plain old "enlightenment").

What do you see as a real, practical solution to our march back into the Dark Ages? Education? A change in laws about "home schooling"? Will it take a crisis to turn things around?

During church services this morning our pastor gave a sermon about abortion. He said that because the babies are not properly baptised they cannot enter The Kingdom of Heaven. That of course is a given. However what he went on to say afterwords left a lot of the congregation scratching their heads. He spoke of the unclean spirits of the unsaved babies haunting the wombs of their promiscuous mothers as punishment from God. I don't like to question my pastor, but this doesn't seem biblically sound to me. It'd seem obvious that the souls of the aborted babies would go strait to hell rather than hang around and torment the harlots as "ghosts" in their wombs? Perhaps I misunderstood him. If not, I'm curious if these spirits haunt them until they repent, or haunt them regardless until the end of their earthly lives?

Our salvation is in our lord Jesus Christ. Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6) Once we have salvation, it is not a question of if we have to go to church, but it is a privilege of we get to go to church.

The bible says, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:23-25) We are suppose to get together with other believers and encourage each other. The bible says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17) When we became a Christian, we basically told God we couldn’t do anything without him. God wants the church (church means people of God) to assemble together and learn how to use what God’s Word says in their daily lives. Christian’s are to not only read the bible but to live out what the bible says.

JESUS entered the temple area and drove out all who were bying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. He said to them, "It is written, my house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers".

Please note this is to NON-CHRISTIANS, so I really don't need to hear how it's a wonderful book, perfect in every way.

I'm curious about fellow unbelievers. Was it something specific? Was it issues with internal contradictions or contradictions with science, history, etc? Did it have anything to do with the morality of the bible (and if so, which bits)?

Thanks for your responses :)

Once the universe comes to an end would Heaven and Hell come to an end as well? I've been reading a lot recently about the Oort Cloud, Nemesis Star, 2012, Andromeda/Milky Way collision, etc.

Galatians 1:8 states: "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." Some examples of "false gospels" include:

1). that water baptism is required for salvation.

2). that one can "accept" Jesus to be one's saviour.

3). that one can "earn" salvation by good works.

4). that the Sabbath is on Saturday (7th-day Sabbath).

5). that Christians can divorce their spouse if their spouse is an unbeliever.

6). that prayer to "saints" encourages God to answer our prayer.

7). that women can teach or preach when men are present in the assembly.

8). that speaking in "tongues" is a proof of salvation.

I believe I am my own God. Not omnipotent, but just a God for me. I am my own Destiny and my own Fate. The only power higher than my own, that controls me is Nature.

Everything that happens to me is a result of my actions, direct or indirect.

Please challenge me on this, I need second opinions to strengthen or eliminate this belief.

The notion of God is best understood in terms of the mind, not in terms of the physical cosmos.

Anything that is self-sufficient, perfect, and everlasting, is a good thing, since its qualities are said to be good with respect to imperfect things.

So with that said, the personality of God, which is purely an imagined and reasoned principle of thought, can be extrapolated through these superlatives, i.e. supreme, omnipotent, omniscient, infinite, invincible, immortal.

This notion of God does not exist, it is not "real", it exists only in the mind. However, the thing that does exist, is the true self which mirrors these qualities.

Anything that is composed of those qualities is said to be equal to God. The light in your mind, the indication of your true self, found through meditation and philosophy, is self sufficient and perfect.

It is self-sufficient because it is upheld by you, and you need nothing else in order to uphold this.

Does a divine entity have a sense of humor, or is he above such human foibles? What kind of shtick would tickle the funnybone of the King of Kings?

Links definitely welcome. Thanks for answering!

Leviticus 25:1 The LORD said to Moses on Mount Sinai,

44 " 'Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life,

Exodus 20 gives different rules for Hebrew slaves than the passage above, stating Hebrew slaves were freed in 6 years, rather than owned for life and willed to descendants, proving Jehovah to be racist, since whether you were a slave for life or not was dependent on race. Exodus 21:20 tells us we can beat our slaves without penalty, provided they don't die from the beating within a day or two. In the New Testament, Paul goes so far as to tell a slave who ran away to go back to his master, while Jesus never once spoke out against slavery at all! Is it moral to condone slavery?
