Satan is not cast into the lake of fire. He is locked in the abyss or bottomless pit first and contained for 1000 years there will be peace among mankind. After that period he will be set loose and will return to deceive man with all his ways and trappings.
It is then that he will be taken and cast into the Lake of fire by God. Then will come the New City of Jerusalem form above. This will be the new thrown of Christ on Earth.
If you can accept it. The City is a Light Ship. and will set down in America. The thousand years of peace will be from 2012 to 3012. This information is from Channeled material.

This is called, "The Millennium" in religious circles, there are also, pre-millennial events and post-millennial events.
Satan is cast into the "abyss" (proper rendering) not a "bottom-less pit" (how can a pit be "bottomless") ? Anyways, Satan is in a state of arrest and is detained by Jesus Christ for 1000 years where the earth experiences a time of peace, rejuvenation and prosperity. After, which Satan is released and (as usual) turns on the world to get the unconverted re: "Gog and Magog" ( some believe to be China, India and neighbours), to amass against those nations, who are under the loving rule of Jesus Christ, to destroy them. Of course, Jesus Christ easily defeats these hordes. Satan is eventually, re-arrested and thrown ("cast") into the Lake of fire ! Since Satan is a spiritual-composed entity, he will not be incinerated. Satan will totally, wallow in his defeat and evil will no longer prevail. At this juncture in God's plan, humans will ALL be united with Jesus Christ and no evil will be allowed to take root in God's society. God is in the SAVING business - not the "fear" religion business. That's why Jesus was murdered on our behalf - He died to supply us with the grace to make our [all humans ever born], future a reality !

If you have already accepted Christ as your Savior, God bless you! Now go and tell everyone you meet about your new life in Christ and tell them of their need for repentance and faith in Christ that they may be saved.
If you don't know Christ as your LORD and Savior, then I invite you right here and now to open up your heart and see the sin that blackens your heart. Confess to God that you are a sinner and that you repent (turn from your sin) and accept Jesus into your heart . Ask Him to teach you His ways and show you what it is He will have you do for the kingdom of Heaven.

It doesn't say that. It says that Satan is bound in the pit for 1,000 years. Jesus sets up His 1,000 year reign on earth, and everything is perfect. At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan is let go for a brief time to collect all who want to rebel against Jesus Christ, and they are all sent together with Satan to hell eternally.

Proving that, even after 1,000 years of perfection, peace, everyone healed, and everything great, some people will still sadly rebel and reject Jesus Christ.

CJ's answer is the correct one, with the exception that hell is not forever, the devil and the unbelievers or his followerers if you may will be burned to death to exist no more. They will not live forever with God. God is not going to punish people to the firey pits of hell like people want to scare us into believing. You will be burned up, and no longer exist. CJ is right though though, Satan is BOUND for the 1,000yrs. People will live on earth with Christ for 1,000 yrs in peace, harmony and prosperity.
