The notion of God is best understood in terms of the mind, not in terms of the physical cosmos.
Anything that is self-sufficient, perfect, and everlasting, is a good thing, since its qualities are said to be good with respect to imperfect things.
So with that said, the personality of God, which is purely an imagined and reasoned principle of thought, can be extrapolated through these superlatives, i.e. supreme, omnipotent, omniscient, infinite, invincible, immortal.
This notion of God does not exist, it is not "real", it exists only in the mind. However, the thing that does exist, is the true self which mirrors these qualities.
Anything that is composed of those qualities is said to be equal to God. The light in your mind, the indication of your true self, found through meditation and philosophy, is self sufficient and perfect.
It is self-sufficient because it is upheld by you, and you need nothing else in order to uphold this.

It is perfect because it is created by you, and has no flaw to it whatsoever since you prevent it from having any flaw. So in this sense, you make it into your god. There is no other God out there but you and the ones you know.
It is omnipotent, because the self beyond it, (you) creates this perfect light by its own means.
This light is the product of your will, and is not a being in the sky and certainly not a foreign, unknown source of the universe. It is simply your will outside of your body.

This is what God says:
" The fool says in his heart,
"There is no God."
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good.
The LORD looks down from heaven
on the sons of men
to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God.
All have turned aside,
they have together become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
not even one. '
Psalm 14:1-3
"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools..."

Who needs God when we have the all-knowing Julian to guide our way.....ALL HAIL JULIAN...
"anything that is self sufficient, perfect and everlasting is a good thing......" nothing but God would fulfill these three requirements so your exercise is without comparison and philosophically faulty to begin with.
The notion of God is very real to everyone even unbelievers. whether or not God is an actual entity is what you mean to question. The true self can not claim to be self sufficient, perfect or everlasting so how can it be one and the same?
Nothing else can be said to be equal of such qualities by your own reasoning as anything that does have those qualities is God so how can there be other things that are God but simultaneously not God.
The light in your mind is not self sufficient and is in fact the opposite. Intellegence is experience and structure neither of which are self generated or perfect or everlasting but observed, faulty and everchanging. Therefore by extention the light of your own mind is everything that is NOT GOD by reasoning of your own definitions.

You are partly right and partly off track. When you say it is all in the mind you are right but when it comes to keeping an object/person as GOD, it raises more questions than it tries to answer.
Look it from the angle of "seer and seen" seer is always superior than the seen. For example the objects are seen and Eye is the seer and again the eye is the seen and mind is the seer, again mind is the seen and intellect is the seer . If you extend this further you reach a point where there is only the seer and that is GOD. But this requires lot of introspection and deep study.
But initially you take something as GOD and progress from there since you need a starting point, the first step to reach great heights.

Without evidence, of course gods are better understood as products of the mind.
Perfection is the end of enquiring minds, and the end of evolution. It is the beginning of stagnation.
Eternity and all other sorts of everlasting things are much too long, especially toward the end.
Ominipotence corrupts. Absolute omnipotence absolutely corrupts.
Self-sufficience should not be confused with close-mindedness.

You are getting closer, but man creates nothing, but is reliant on the Creator for all things. Anything that the "old man" creates, is another illusion springing from the house built on sand. It appears for a season, and then washes out. Truth remains and is untouched by the old man's attempts to have truth conform to his ways.

So you are defining god as an imaginary idea. This is very different than what most christians believe god to be. They believe god to be separate and independent of your mind.
I think you will find you will get much flak from the christian quarter.
As an atheist, I have always regarded the concept of god as man-made.

Mostly, I agree. However I disagree with your notion of 'self-sufficiency'. To presume one as self-sufficient, one would have to be independent of all other phenomena. Unless, of course, by 'you' you mean 'us'....
Also, I disagree that anything imperfect actually exists.
May all beings be well and fully realized.

This is what the eternal, almighty God says to the little mud man:
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD.
"As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts. "
