I'm just wondering.. if God doesn't exist and all religions are bogus, why have all these different types of religion endured over several hundred or thousands of years, and why are many of them thematically similar?

Everytime someone points out something that is a contradiction or funny about Christianity, you always say that "JESUS WILL JUDGE YOU IN THE END AND YOU WILL BE SHAKING ON YOUR KNEES IN FRONT OF HIM!!!!!!!!!!" Why does Jesus have no sense of humor? You would think watching Christians falling over themselves to kiss his butt would make him roll on the floor laughing, let alone the invention of holy water (it is still water guys, just some person said something and waved his hand/wand over it). Or other things like that. Come on, Jesus has got to have a sense of humor, he invented Christians.

It seems that there are a lot of negative assumptions being made, and I would like to know where they are coming from...

Thanks!

Art as a vehicle for spiritual expression is nothing new. Usually, however, art has been tethered to a religious dogma & has ended up churning out religious propaganda rather than being a personal statement of spiritual feeling. Being an Atheist, I do not subscribe to the theory of "spirit" being a distinct component of our existence that continues after death. Instead, I view the "spritual" as the apex of human emotion; thus spirit is often best expressed in the most trying of times.

Witness Anna Akhmatova: the Russian Acmeist poet had always written poetry infused with spiritual themes("Chiotki"--The Prayer Beads--"Belaya Straya"--The White Flock), but it was the incarceration of her son which produced the impulse in her for her most moving, "spiritual" poetry. I also Think of Kathe Kollwitz, famous for her depictions of mothers---and death("Death As An Old Friend"). Kollwitz lost her son in the first World War.

What works do you find spiritual? No Thomas Kinkade answers!

Honestly, have you ever caught yourself praying to a God that you do not believe exists. Either in time of trouble (Help God) or when something good happens (Thank God) . Or cursing a God you believe does not exist. God D*** it! or JESUS CHRIST!!!!!

If what deepak teaches is truth, shouldn't we have the mind power to make our bodies and not age? or make our eyes color change? If we conciously control our bodies, why can't we stop hair loss by internal dialog comanding our bodies not to lose hair?

Start the trend, say something nice in your answer to this question,

this isn't to say friendly sarcasm is wrong or bad, just that malicious sarcasm is so unneccessary and you know what I'm talking about.

"To what extent are you influenced by Christianity?"

"As a child, I received instruction both in the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene."

"You accept the historical existence of Jesus?"

"Unquestionably. No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life. How different, for instance, is the impression which we receive from an account of legendary heroes of antiquity like Theseus. Theseus and other heroes of his type lack the authentic vitality of Jesus."

"Ludwig Lewisohn, in one of his recent books, claims that many of the sayings of Jesus paraphrase the sayings of other prophets."

"No man," Einstein replied, "can deny the fact that Jesus existed, nor that his sayings are beautiful. Even if some them have been said before, no one has expressed them so divinely as he."

Since we don't believe in hell why do you think we are afraid of it? When you tell us we will be held accountable for our words, to whom are we to be held? If you do realize that your threats have no bearing on us then why do you make them? Are you just being mean?

I don't really believe that there are any psychics out there. However, I know that there are a few people out there who claim to be psychics, so I was wondering if they had the "answer" to this question. :)

Wa-Wa-Wa Pick-Pick-Pick

Doesn't anybody realize that we are all humans first and foremost? We are all prone to getting upset and saying stupid stuff. We are all susceptable to "foot in mouth" disease. Are most of us here for an adult discusson on matters or Religion and Spirituality or are there more trolls in here looking for attention? What do you think?

do you actually think you are posing a question not already posed by countless theologians?

I believe it is the word of God, however, it was written in a different time period and culture. For instance, there are scriptures that talk about women covering their heads and being silent in church yet if you go to a majority of churches (in the U.S.) that isn't happening...does that mean the women are sinning? Also, it talks about not defiling your body because it is the temple of the Holy Spirit, yet many men and women have pierced ears and tattoos. To me these and other scriptures, just show us that the Bible is more of a guide to living and being more Christlike...not a literal word-for-word playbook. Any thoughts?

Dear Atheist,
I ask you with all due respect. Take you time, and think about my question first, because some might jump in and answer in haste.
If you don't believe in God. Why do many of you continue to ask and speak of what God like, dislikes and wants, if you don't believe that He even exist?

for example check the response in this question:
quote: "It seems God hates intelligence. "
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjgnkhbkS0OunNLlrjkTN_Lsy6IX?qid=20070614073949AAzWY8C&show=7#profile-info-6923342ba221554673e9e41fd20aa427aa

I am not preaching anything, nor ever well, but ever wonder why so many of you speak of God and yet don't believe in God? Are you just use God against others? or is there another reason!

Respectfully to All
