Dear Atheist,
I ask you with all due respect. Take you time, and think about my question first, because some might jump in and answer in haste.
If you don't believe in God. Why do many of you continue to ask and speak of what God like, dislikes and wants, if you don't believe that He even exist?
for example check the response in this question:
quote: "It seems God hates intelligence. "

I am not preaching anything, nor ever well, but ever wonder why so many of you speak of God and yet don't believe in God? Are you just use God against others? or is there another reason!
Respectfully to All

It is hard not to bring up the subject about God, and religion when it is always out there in the media, movies, music etc.

The bible is a book, a story with characters.
You can talk about the likes and dislikes of Harry Potter, or Tom Sawyer based on the characterization in the books. You do not have to believe the characters are real to do so.
Now, why would atheists want to do this? To point out the selective thinking of people who believe that the book is literal truth.
If they claim that god loves all the babies then the Atheist pointing out that this is inconsistent with other parts of the stories about god where he orders babies slaughtered or to dash them against rocks.
We are pointing out that if you are going to take the extraordinary claim that the bible is the 'gospel truth' and not just a bunch of stories, that you have to take the entire thing. Not just the bits that make you feel good.

First, it's not God who hates intelligent, but what I hate is it's followers (in general) who use God's name to preach against (in general) that does not follow their religion, an example in which in your case I see every day in the news is the fight with I.D vs Evolution.
I believe that religion is a lifestyle, the way a person chooses to live their life by, and there is no one true religion or god for every one to believe in either, because God / Gods / Goddess is "personal" to that individual; which variety adds to the spice of life.
Like I said, it's not God/Gods/Goddess, but it's the followers who use God which gives the followers a bad image and in turn gives God (in general) a bad image.
Hope this helps from a non-christian point of view.

It's like being a tourist in a foreign country, you try to communicate with the natives in their language, which you happen to have a good understanding of. When we say "it seems god likes or hates something" it is to get those who do believe in him to see and comprehend the parts of the bible or koran that they have probably not given mugh thought to before. I am an atheist with a great deal of knowledge about the bible. I share it with those who only seem to get the warm fuzzy verses spoon fed to them by their preachers/pastors . This entire site was built with the intention of helping people find answers to their questions. It's a good thing to have us atheists here to add balance to all the sugar-coated mythology based answers that soured me on christianity to begin with. Everyone chooses what it is they will believe about the nature of the universe. To chase us away, is an act of desperation on the part of those who love their faith, but inside realize we speak the truth, and fear what that means. Peace

We do this to demonstrate that the existence of such an entity is absurd.
To talk of something is not the same as to accept its existence. I could study the plays of Shakespeare for decades, without ever needing to believe that Hamlet or Macbeth actually existed, because I know these are fictional character.
The religious claim that God exist. How can you expect an atheist to refute this without mentioning "God"? That would be absurd.
P.S. People like you sound like they've never heard of the "proof by contradiction" concept in mathematics. To prove that statement A is false, you assume for a moment that A is true! From this you derive a logical contradiction, demonstrating that the initial assumption cannot be true. Ergo, A is false.

Sweetheart, at any point you have to assure your audience that you are NOT doing something, it is because you are doing it. Besides, if we are going to open the lines of communication, we have to have something to call your deity. You use God. Generally, when I am responding to a Christian, I use your deity, or god lowercase. This person took the answers they were given, and came to, sadly, a rather logical conclusion. He asked for why he should believe, and was told, for the most part, because we do.

It's called "knowing your audience". Do you think your going to convince an atheist to change his mind by using a bible verse? No, of course not. We don't believe the bible is true. But, we know that you do and we want to know what you think. That's the point of asking questions. If we were only concerned with what we think, we wouldn't even be on this site.

Its not really an actual statement from their heart, its more of a mocking look at the mind-set of the religious.
We associate the religious and a god loving them; when you see a lot of similar traits in religious people, a humourous view of it is to think that their god obviously loves the qualities they have and, therefore, dislikes the opposite.
In this case, the poster has observed that many religious people are stupid (to their eyes; I wouldn't say stupid, but more naive) and made a joke about how, if their god loves them, (s)he must love stupidity.

Respectfully, you miss the ENTIRE point.
Atheists are using the Christian "proof" of God to dispel the myth of the Christian God. Atheists are not at all speaking of God for ANY OTHER REASON. They are simply tossing the contradictions in Christianity about God back at you.
I know it is easy for Christians to think that everyone who is not Christian wants to be one. That is, plain and simple, bullshit. An Atheist speaking of God is in no way an indication that said Atheist desires anything more. Your last sentence assumption proves the true intent of your question - and that intent is to, once again, point out that you think this way.
Plain and simple: Atheists talking about God usually happens when they are pointing out the weaknesses in Christian doctrine and beliefs. There are not enough hours in the day or Atheists on Yahoo to point them all out.
Sorry, but you got it wrong with that last sentence there - I thought you WERE being respectful until that last line. Then, your true motivation shined through. Pity.

I might describe any fictional character based on the story they are found in.
If I describe a character on a TV show or in a movie does that mean I believe that character really exists in real life?
