I once had a long (12 hour) discussion with a brother in law about religion.

He started out by saying he was an atheist, but believed that Jesus was the son of god. He had thought that because he rejected organised religion, that made him an atheist.

Having sorted him out on that one, he went on to say believing in god was logical and then I must have some core belief, that it was impossible not to. It took about two hours to get him understand that no, I really didn't believe in god.

But then, getting him to acknowledge that it was faith, not logic that made him believe in god took around 9-10 hours.

Finally, after peeling back all the layers of his belief and why he held them, he had to admit to the seed of his belief being faith, which then undermined his whole argument about belief in god as being logical.

How many others confuse faith and logic?

Why did he have so much difficulty accepting someone could really not believe in god?

A U.S. Navy chaplain who prayed "in Jesus' name" as his conscience dictated is being ejected from the military service "in retaliation" for his victorious battle to change Navy policy that required religious rites be "non-sectarian

As President, Thomas Jefferson not only signed bills which appropriated financial support for chaplains in Congress and in the armed services, but he also signed the Articles of War, April 10, 1806, in which he:

"Earnestly recommended to all officers and soldiers, diligently to attend divine services."

This is how the vitrol of the PC crowd is trying to change everything that was great about the United States

If you ask me a question, why should I answer in my words when God has answered in the Qur'an. For example the people at the time of Muhammad asked him about alcohol, God revealed:

''They ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. Say: "In them is a great sin, and (some) benefit for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: "That which is beyond your needs." Thus Allah makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought." (Qur'an 2:219)

Christians were thrown to the lions because they wanted a separation of church and state; now they are fighting for a national religion?

The Roman Empire had an official religion which was forced on all people in the Empire even if those people who did not believe in the Roman gods and divinity. Early Christians rebelled against having the empire’s beliefs forced upon them; they wanted a separation of church and state.

Now many fundamental Christians are trying to create an official religion for the US; they seem to think it is OK to force their religion on non-believers because it is THEIR god.

Is this hypocritical or am I missing something?

I don't expect these atheist types like Lokkisamany to agree, since they are mired in their self worship. However, in my day you would get shunned by having a failed marriage. That's how it should be now, if you go outside of your marriage, you are sinning! Bottom line!! Sinning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's bring Jesus Christ back into our Country, just like our founders would have wanted. (Yes they did!)

My sister is a good example of this. She is head of the maths department at the school where she teaches. Maths being based on logic, you would expect its easy to have a logically based discussion with her. However, as soon as religion comes into it and she's faced with a question about contradictions or silly dogmas in her religion, she instantly pulls out the response of "But I have faith" and refuses to pursue a logical argument saying that sometimes faith is more important than logic.

Isn't this just avoiding the need to examine faith.

I was just thinking about when I was a kid, things like Sunday school and vacation bible school, I remember being taught to be an automaton, to believe everything the nice instructor said.

I remember the songs, the readings, everything was designed to be some sort of Orwellian/BF skinner nightmare. "Jesus loves me yes I know, cause the BIBLE TELLS ME SO."

just thinking about it really creeps me out, does anyone else have these memories and such an adverse reaction to it?

The population on planet earth has been growing for the past 3-5 thousand years. Today there is about 6.68 billion humans on earth and 75 million births per year, that is about 200,000 births per day.

Evolutionist say that humans evolved over a period of a million years. but the population 4000-6000 years ago would have been like maybe 1 million humans in the entire planet or less?

Mesopotamia Art show humans as we know them today.

So before any recorded history human population must have been very low on planet earth. Births must have been a few a year.

So if we are having 75 million births per year should'nt there be a sign of human drastic evolution? 75 million births is probaby equivalent to a 100,000 years before any recorded history since the population was so low and births where few.

Yet we see no sign of human evolution. We so see variety of skin color and eye color, but we do not find one superior variety. All humans are equal and evolution is absent.

When you put a man-made institution between yourself and your God, doesn't that allow more room for man-made beliefs? Also, if you beleive in love, forgiveness, and compassion personally, why join an institution that preaches only their own way of thinking is correct? This seems like a fundamental flaw in the very concepts you are trying to stand for to me.

If Satan is so evil, why bother talking to him at all? I'm surprised they would be on speaking terms, since they have an eternal feud. By the way, if you need references to this, read the book of Job.

People say that LORD in all capitals means that the Bible originally said Jehovah in those places.

Other people say that Jehovah isn't in the New Testament.in the original Bible, only lord.

But Acts 2:34 says "LORD".in all capitals AND it's in the New Testament. So what does it say in the original? Jehovah or lord? (I know it means God and not Jesus, but I want to know what word was written there.)

For example in the Qur'an God tells of Mary's mother which is not in the Bible. Does this not interest you at all?

'(Remember) when the wife of 'Imran said: "O my Lord! I have vowed to You what (the child that) is in my womb to be dedicated for Your services (free from all worldly work; to serve Your Place of worship), so accept this, from me. Verily, You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knowing."

'Then when she delivered her [child Maryam (Mary)], she said: "O my Lord! I have delivered a female child," - and Allah knew better what she delivered, - "And the male is not like the female, and I have named her Maryam (Mary), and I seek refuge with You (Allah) for her and for her offspring from Shaitan (Satan), the outcast."

Someone stated that everybody has a purpose in this world. My question is?Was the man or woman down the street
purpose in this world to kill and abuse.if so why then would we need someone with that kind of purpose in this world. Why would God allow someone like that to exist.I dont believe that people start out to be mean but somewhere along the way they lost who they were.If God created these people for a purpose then we should really be worried about our spouse, children, next door neighbor or anyone else that breaths. How could God let someone who he knowling will kill and abuse other people even be brought in to this world.Where is the free will of the little children who have suffered needlessly.
