I'm an atheist because no one ever convinced me that gods exist. The myths that various religions have all seem so similar to me, whether they are the stories in the Bible, or the myths of the ancient Greeks. As I learned about science, I found that religions often make claims that contradict testable, verifiable statements made by scientists, and so I have moved away from religious belief.

The absence of belief in god is equivalent to an absence of belief in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Thor, Garden Gnomes, Bridge Trolls and a china teapot in orbit around the sun (Bertrand Russell), and for exactly the same reason... we find that there is no compelling evidence to support the idea that supernatural sky-fairies (gods) exist.

Nothing PUSHES non-believers, that's the whole point. We refuse to be pushed around by some dumb belief that contradicts itself at every turn and punishes you for using your brain and questioning the contradictions instead of going along with the other sheep.
it is an intelligent decision made after much research, unlike christianity in most cases

Wrong question.
The real question is why do people believe in god?
There is more 'evidence' for dragons, mermaids and fairies existing. than there is for god. Should I believe in them?
The starting point is to not believe in dragons, mermaids and fairies until there is a good reason to do so. Why should it be different for gods?
Because some priest quoting from an old, corrupted book says "Because I say so." is not a good reason.

A logical, rational mind. An unwillingness to believe in obvious fairy tales. A thorough reading of the bible or koran. Other things.

Nothing. We are all born atheist. You should be asking, what makes a person believe in God? It's a much more interesting question

I am an atheist because I am knowledgeable about the Bible and about religion in general. I have studied it, and I don't agree with any of it. I find it very hard to believe that some spirit in the sky is running our world. It just does not seem logical to me.

The real question is what makes people believe in something complete devoid of any evidence? The only reason people believe in god is because their parents believed in god. The only reason god was invented is because we lacked knowledge about our surroundings.

There is no push.
I'm an atheist because all religious doctrine is just so much hogwash. I don't understand how anyone can actually believe any of it.
