For example in the Qur'an God tells of Mary's mother which is not in the Bible. Does this not interest you at all?

'(Remember) when the wife of 'Imran said: "O my Lord! I have vowed to You what (the child that) is in my womb to be dedicated for Your services (free from all worldly work; to serve Your Place of worship), so accept this, from me. Verily, You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knowing."

'Then when she delivered her [child Maryam (Mary)], she said: "O my Lord! I have delivered a female child," - and Allah knew better what she delivered, - "And the male is not like the female, and I have named her Maryam (Mary), and I seek refuge with You (Allah) for her and for her offspring from Shaitan (Satan), the outcast."

'So her Lord (Allah) accepted her with goodly acceptance. He made her grow in a good manner and put her under the care of Zakariya (Zachariya). Every time he entered Al-Mihrab to (visit) her , he found her supplied with sustenance. He said: "O Maryam (Mary)! From where have you got this?" She said, "This is from Allah." Verily, Allah provides sustenance to whom He wills, without limit." (Qur'an 3:35-37)

I've read the Koran. It says Jesus is just another prophet like Muhammad. Well, Jesus was the last prophet and Muhammad was an imposter. He could neither read nor write.

A couple of things:
1. That's pretty interesting. Thank you for sharing it. A lot of Christians don't know that Muslims also believe in Mary.

2. The Old Testament, the Qur'an, the Vedas...a lot of religious books, written in ancient languages are very difficult to translate into Modern English. And to be honest, the translation "loses" some of its...spice?...flavor?...something! It's not exactly the same. So it's difficult for me, a speaker of Modern English to understand what is being said.

3. These ancient texts were also written with an "Eastern" mindset...they tell the story, without worrying about the details that we in the West worry about. Have you ever tried to tell an American the story of Noah for example? "How big was the Ark? Where did he get the wood? What were the rooms like? Did he have enough hay for the cattle? How did he keep the lions from eating the zebras?...." etc. So that, coupled with the ancient language makes for a very difficult read.

I must admit that I don't fully understand what is being said here. I sort of understand that Mary is being called Holy by Allah (as she is beloved in Christian tradition as well). I think that the full meaning of this has been lost over the millenia and it takes on different meanings to different people...and this causes religious strife.

HOWEVER! I applaud you for showing us that we are not so very different and demonstrating to Christians some common ground. Brava!

I study a respectable quantity of the Qur'an in an Islam classification I took once. a lot of that's amazingly eye-catching, and listening to a number of the surahs chanted become truthfully between the most eye-catching issues I have ever heard. As you communicate about, the Qur'an speaks very superbly of Jesus and Mary (no longer to point different major actors contained in the Christian drama), and Christians ought to really study those passages as a fashion to extra communicate between themselves and our Muslim brothers and sisters. although, if i favor assistance about the historic figures of Jesus and Mary, i'm probably more beneficial ideal off consulting the earliest texts we've that communicate about them. The synoptic Gospels were written interior of a century of Jesus's lack of life, rather a lot an entire 600 years earlier the Qur'an. So, yeah, as a (Catholic) Christian, i'm attracted to what the Qur'an says about Mary and Jesus for the applications of getting to draw close to stay and - as far as conceivable - worship with Muslims. yet i'm no longer attracted to it for the applications of historic assistance.

I've read alot of it. It kind of lost it's appeal when it said not to be friends with Christians and Jews (Surah 5). I also lost interest when I see stories about a man spending 2 years in jail for converting to Christianity and is getting death threats.

You might want to read the Gospels of Luke and John and see what the son of God (Jesus) does have to say. If you look at what Luke writes it quiclky becomes evident that he has probably talked with Mary herself or other close members of the family. John 3 tells us that God sent his son and those that believe will be saved and those that don't judged.

It interests me in the sense that I've read some of it. I want to know what the Muslims are reading. But since I don't consider it scripture or from God...it doesn't mean anything as far as what it says about Mary's mother etc.

As far as I'm concerned, Mohamed read the Old and New Testaments and then wrote the Quran with bits from each and some other stuff added in.

I have read what it says about Mary and Jesus. And since it conflicts with what the Gospels (written within a century of Jesus by people who, unlike your Mohammed, actually knew Jesus), I refer to the trustworthy scriptures of the New Testament of the Holy Bible for all of my information on Mary and Jesus.

Um... I wouldn't mind but:

a) I can't read Arabic.
b) I like to read things in context so it would help if I had the WHOLE thing, not just bits here and there.
c) The Qu'ran was, as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong), written by Muhammed only whilst the Bible was written by many prophets and people who go along the same lines. Right now, the Bible seems more credible to me. My apologies if that offends you.

Christians are ignorant to anything remotely un-christian. They will not read anything that doesn't have to do with their religion. They are brain washed sheep who fear their shepard. Alot of them will never touch a Qur'an for the fear it may say something BETTER than the Bible.

I'm not a theist but at least the Qu'ran doesn't have near as many contradictions that the Holy Bible does. A little harder to read but worth the effort to gain some knowledge Christians will never have.

Other historical texts refer to Jesus and Mary, not just the Bible or the Koran. Their existence in history is not in dispute. It is not unfathomable that Mary had a mother. I am a bit lost on what point you are trying to make.

I have communicated with Muslims before and have been given a tour of those verses. I have been shown enough to know that the Koran teaches a sort of doctrine about Jesus that by John's definition are antichrist.
