Dubious, why not, I ask? If people can INVENT the idea the God was talking to Jesus when we said "us", then there are other logical explanations as well. Nowhere in the Bible does it state that God was talking to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Christians like to make things up.

The real reason Genesis says "us" is because this particular creation myth originated in Sumer/Babylon where mankind was created by a "council" of Gods.

God did NOT say to satan anything about creating. He said to the other aspects of the Godhead: The "WORD" said to the FATHER and HOLY SPIRIT..., "let us..., etc." Then the Word became flesh after the failure of the 1st man Adam. The image and likeness of God means we are "spirit" as our true identity and have "free will", the power to speak our life into existence when connected with God-power, we have choice and it will not go away unless we choose to come under the domination of satan and he will steal your free will away, the right to utilize the name of Jesus as power of attorney here on Earth and the power and dominion over all creation except our fellowman.., that dominion is reserved for that evil snake satan, the devil.
What was "well enough" needing to be left alone?
God created the Earth precisely for MANKIND to rule and enjoy.., to practice being "like our source" and the fallen (previously archangel Lucifer) angel decided to "mess up the Paradise" and decided to take revenge against God by stealing God's creation... animal, mineral, vegetable and of course, MAN - male and female.
Instead of wiping the slate clean and starting over, God just decided to redeem (buy back) Earth and the original plan by sending a 2nd Adam to PAY the price for the 1st Adam's sin. Sin is: breaking God's law, and the payoff is death, literally in some aspects, but spiritually by being separated from God forever.
O well, "us" is NOT referring to satan being addressed in this scripture. Read in the New Testament in Colossians 1: 16 - 20; also in John 1:1 - 5, 14; also Hebrews 1: 2; and then Philippians 2: 5 - 11.

You may have a point there. In the book of Job, you will see how God and Satan talk to each other regarding Job.
In 1Samuel 16:14 and 1Samuel 18:10 you will notice there how God have an Evil Spirit also.
However, In Genesis 1 on the 6th day, when God said, "Let us make man in our own image and likeness". It also connotes that the the first people created before Adam (the Male and Female simultaneously after the animals) were believers of many Gods and Godesses and were aware of good and evil thoughts and works. They were also believers of nature and elements of nature. It is not that many gods were talking there but it is telling us that those earlier people were polytheists.
In Genesis 2, the accounts of Adam was different because He was created first and then the animals were next and only after the animals did Eve followed. When they sinned, God said, "Now that they become like "us", knowing good and evil. God was saying that Adam and Eve became like the first people He created. Adam was supposed to know what is good only and he is the enlightened one to know that there is One God. A reason why the Jews are Monotheists.
It will also explain to you why Cain was afraid if he gets outside the Garden of Eden and that's where he took his wife. Remember he was a marked man and it will be impossible for him to go back to his family and marry one of his sisters. The Jews are very particular about their purity.

God spoke those words to the other persons of the Blessed Trinity, His Son Jesus and the Holy Ghost.

We are made in the image of God because, unlike animals, we have an intellect and a will, and an immortal soul that will live forever.

No, He was talking to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Satan was a cherub, not a human or a god.

The Father was speaking to the pre-incarnate Son, and the Holy Spirit, not Satan.
