My religion does not follow a god, rather we try to follow the example set by one man, Siddharta Gautama. He rid himself of the human condition, and became wise, and then set about helping others.
These 5 declarations can help you begin to achieve this (nowhere near the full package, but it's a start):
I undertake to never harm another living being
I undertake to never take what is not freely given
I undertake never to partake in sexual misconduct
I undertake not to use false speech
I undertake not to use mind-altering substances.
At the end of the day, you'd have to read up on the rest, cos I'm not really prepared to sit here all night and type a whole book, but that's Buddhism in a nutshell. Take those declarations in whatever way, but always follow them. That way, you would begin to better yourself.

Taoism is unique in that it's a very abstract type of religion. It isn't administrative, like many religions, and doesn't give instructions on how to do this or that - it gives general advice for living with wisdom, compassion, and harmony to obtain inner peace. Some of the aspects of its defining document, the Tao Te Ching, are very clear, and some are very difficult to understand what they mean.
But I have found its advice useful in a practical sense, interpreted my way and applied to my situations. It makes a lot of sense to me, it fits what I have experienced and what I believe... and frankly nothing else really does.
