For sincere christians I am confused? Today the McCann parents are seeing the Pope and for the past few weeks in every church, irrespective of denomination and whether Protestant or Catholic there have been prayers to God through Jesus Christ Our Lord to try to find the little girl. But god seems to have failed to do HIS jobl? The same thing happened over the Soham murders with Prayers over them too in almost every Church in the UK until those two lovely litle girls were found horribly murdered in Lakenheath! God did not save them either? . Yet we hear if Huntly becomes a Christian his sins will be forgiven and will go to heaven because Christ has suffered for his sins too, just like us? So those of us who believe(d) in an all merciful God "who so loved the world" ....are we wrong? Is there no God after all? If not where has HE been these past few weeks = on holiday? And where when Huntley committed his crime = on holiday? And where was he on 9-11 and 7-7 ? Tell me please!

I think we all take life and loved ones for granted. These are the things that are most important to us, but sadly we take them for granted. We complain about many things in life and we sometimes argue with loved ones, but we never stop to think that death can come at any moment and it'll be too late then. I read this question earlier and it brought tears to my eyes and really made me think about all the things we take for granted.

If thats the case, then, what is the meaning of the following?

“Each man should look to his conduct; if he has reason to boast of anything, it will be because the achievement is his and not another’s. ......... A man will REAP ONLY what he SOWS.” Galatians 6:4 - 7

"Each of us shall give an account of himself to God." Romans 14:12

"Each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor." 1Corinthians 3:8

"Also to you O Lord, belong mercy; for you render to each one according to his work." Psalms 62:12

"And will he not render to each man according to his deeds?" Proverbs 24:12

If each man reaps what he sows, how can Jesus be the savior ? How could he have taken on the sins of mankind and negated them ?
For heaven's sake, please have some common sense in what you preach. In fact, only GOD can save us from anything and definitely Jesus is not God, cos, God said in Isaiah 46:9 “I am God, there is no other;, I am God, THERE IS NONE LIKE ME.”

(The response below is simply to provide additional thoughts to our evolving conversation about homosexuality, I am not really trying to respond to any particular persons post. Although I do respond to some general ideas that many have shared in previous postings.)

HOMOSEXUALITY & SOCIAL JUSTICE

We need to learn to be open minded enough to discuss this issue based on rational grounds. I do not feel that homosexuality is a manifastation of a deficit in character or emotional or mental ability. A person who is gay or has gay tendencies may be "wired" differently from birth. I know this is a throw back to the nature versus nurture argument.

We must come to grips with the reality that the human sexuality is the most complex of any animal. This is probably because we as humans have the most complex and higly evolved minds. Therefore, unlike most species our sexual envolvement is not simply an act of procreation but it is also an expression of love and communication on a very intimate level. Sometimes our interest or connection with others does not come in the package of the opposite gender.

In addition, the psychologists "Freud and Erikson" suggest that the lines human sexuality are not clearly marked. (Most people are not 100% heterosexual or 100% homosexual) Most people are some where right or left of center along a continuem.

Culture, tradition and religion has created taboos that have discriminated against certain groups based on unrational grounds. We all know that homosexuality will never be normal or normative behavior in western and especial American culture. However, homosexuality should not be viewed as an act or a transgression against God and Humanity.

I know that many of you are going to tow the line with a literalistic interpretation of scripture from the Old Testament to the New Testament. However, I will caution you, that the same scriptures were used to justify African/African American oppression from Leviticus, to the Letters of Paul. So I do not think that we should use, misuse and abuse the Sacred scriptures to justify anyone elses oppression; homosexuals.

We must be broad minded enough to look at the big picture. The cooresponding theme from the Old Testament to the New Testament is a theme of Liberation. In a literal since, in the Old Testment, the Bible talks about the Liberation of a wayward people who are looking to a Messiah to help them re-establish the Kingdom of Yehwah and deliver them from their multiple international enemies. The Gospel shares with us a Savior who will bring this Kingdom down through an act of LOVE, which led to His death on the Cross!!!! (John 3:16)
(Yes, Jesus died to liberate his people and all people)

I believe that we should share in the mission of the Long awaited Messiah. We should embrace God's Kingdom, expressed through Jesus Christ and share it with others. Abernachy called The Kingdom, "God's Beloved Kingdom."

One way to share in the Kingdom of God is to untie ourselves from the cultural and religious chains that oppress other people. We need to fight for the cause of liberation of everyone even if it leads to our own cross and blood shed.

To me the topic homosexuality is not a issue of sin, but it is a issue of SOCIAL JUSTICE. GOD'S PEOPLE ARE BEING OPPRESSED THROUGH DRACONIAN LAWS THAT PROHIBIT THEM FROM LEGAL MARRIAGE AND THE ABILITY TO ADOPT CHILDREN IN MOST STATES.

WE NEED TO SHARE GOD'S BELOVED KINGDOM TO ALL WHO ARE OPPRESS AND THIS INCLUDES HOMOSEXUALS.

SCRIPTURE BASIS
“Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.” ---Amos 5:24
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the Children of God.” ---Matthew 5:9

RELEVANT QOUTE

“There is no way of peace along the way of safety. For peace must be dared, it is itself the great venture, and can never be safe. Peace is the opposite of security.” ---Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Devout Catholic parents, lose their child in Portugal after she is kidnapped... Sad story. It truly is a shame...

My question is: Who in their right MINDS would leave a 4 year old child alone in a hotel room with twin 2-year-olds - in a foreign country at that???

Granted, their religion has no bearing on the fact that this child was probably kidnapped. However, their level of stupidity does play a role - had the children been with them, she would not have been kidnapped. Chances are, the girl left the hotel room alone and was kidnapped - so as to make the crime one of opportunity.

These parents have no one but themselves to blame. But, of course, instead of taking responsibility for their own actions (or lack thereof), it is easier to blame this on EVIL...

First, let me clarify that I am an atheist flirting with deism (for lack of a better term).
I'm reading C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity", and I'm intrigued by his premise that humans' "moral compass", our inherent since of right and wrong, is proof of a just god.
So, I've been thinking, what is my own justification for living a moral life. Being a good person just for the sake of it doesn't really seem to fit any sort of survival prerogative.
Similarly, what would an evolutionist say about why humans developed morals? If we are essentially no different than an animal, then why don't we act like animals (I know, a lot of us do, but they are in the minority). For example, a lion wouldn't "feel bad" if he stole the kill from a rival lion. Heck, he wouldn't feel bad if he had to kill that rival lion in order to steal his kill. So, why did we evolve beyond that type of base survival instinct?

Do you feel that Hell is really for all eternity or is there some point that you can ascend from Hell to Heaven?

It seems strange to me that suffering would be for eternity because you would not learn from it and it seems that god making you suffer forever would just harden your soul even more against him. I am just looking for people thoughts on this.
