Can you be a Christian and not have a conscience? I have met plenty who obviously didn't.

Many people stated that they would be willing to give up heaven in order to comfort a loved one in hell (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmRuPmNv9wYaVl6pVPGP3Sfd7BR.?qid=20070527175732AAoPVPH&r=w&cp=2&tp=2&tnu=44#all-answers ).

Same hypothetical situation, different hypothetical question: God cannot allow you to go to hell to be with your spouse since you have not commited sin and God is all about balance. Besides, it wouldn't help anyway because your spouse would still be alone and tortured, as that is the nature of hell.

HOWEVER, God is all about trades - Jesus was able to take our sin upon him and God is willing to make a similar trade in this situation. SOMEONE has to go to hell - but it doesn't have to be your spouse.

Would you trade places with your spouse, giving up heaven and taking on hell, even knowing that you will be alone and tortured for eternity?

There are no other choices, no "both" or "neither". One of you gets hell. Which one?

Okay, so I'm an atheist. Formerly a Christian--that was a miserable experience for me. However, I have been attending church with my Mormon friends and some of their functions, and it makes me feel very peaceful, in way I can't explain. I'm going to read the Book of Mormon this summer, but I do have trouble understanding that type of language. Is there any good supplement to it? I have so many questions about LDS but wouldn't want to ask until I was more knowledgeable. I really want to read the Book of Mormon so I have read the core of their beliefs, but I just want to make sure I understand. Any suggestions?

I keep hearing this "13 million members" statistic bouncing around. But is that the relevant statistic? If you compute LDS church membership as proportion of the world's population, there has been virtually ZERO growth. In other words, the LDS church is growing only as fast as the world's population.

And given the way Mormon missionaries work, how many of those 13 million don't sincerely identify with the church? How many don't even understand that they are members of the LDS church or have since joined other churches?

I just don't feel like I connect with my spirits anymore. I'm starting to think that it was all what I wanted, and not what I was actually experiencing. But I'm starting to realize that as a parent, I have to focus on reality and not on how I want things to be.

Any advice for someone who is slowly starting to realize that gods don't exist?

When I asked if you would chose to be in hell rather than stay in heaven knowing that your spouse was suffering and alone (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070527175732AAoPVPH&pa=FYd1D2bwHTHwLLplFekzRP1o0utmGMLCnLLh_Vu38CEWOhaO4XKg49p1.18WYawIWD9RoHkNk2a7kg--&paid=asked&msgr_status= ), several Christians explained to me that in heaven we won't have any memories of our loved ones. Therefore, we won't be bothered by the fact that they are being horrifically tortured for all eternity.

They pointed out, in all fairness, that it would be difficult to enjoy oneself knowing that everyone you ever loved was, well, in hell.

My problem with that is, Wouldn't the very act of erasing our earthly memories make us a different person? Wouldn't that remove our free will? What if we WANT to remember our lives and our loved ones? Do we have a choice in the matter?

I'm concerned because Christians usually say that God HAS to send people to hell rather than interfere with their will.

I simply cannot believe mankind isn't working together at this point in time and realizing how similiar the big three religions are. Islam, Christianity and Judaism essentially worship the same God. So why the major conflicts?

would people be nicer? Would they be more polite? Is there any religion that does not see murder as a "sin" in certain cases (such as killing someone who molested your child)?
