I keep hearing this "13 million members" statistic bouncing around. But is that the relevant statistic? If you compute LDS church membership as proportion of the world's population, there has been virtually ZERO growth. In other words, the LDS church is growing only as fast as the world's population.

And given the way Mormon missionaries work, how many of those 13 million don't sincerely identify with the church? How many don't even understand that they are members of the LDS church or have since joined other churches?

Truth counts not the numbers. You have heard of Harry Potters phenomena. It is popular but it is not true. Marketing is the secret. Actually, you have seen how some great religions were formed because of violent conquest, forcible belief and the idea of fear and guilt implanted into the minds of every captive or listener.

Its true, evethough there are members left the church, but the growth is true, especially outside of United States.

Of course there are LDS who are not faithful or as educated as they should, but tell me which church is not having the same problem. Overall, I do say our church is better off, because our officials are not paid to minister, so we have no financial issues. :-)

Given the fact that your narrative is negative toward any Church growth it won't matter what anyone says in response to your question.

Church membership, since last year at 12.5 million, is now at 13 million. If you wish to dissect, diminish, and ignore additional tabulations then that is your prerogative. If you don't wish to join and increase the membership by one more, then move on in life as you wish to live it.

given how prolific they are at breeding they do have growth potential... but the muslims far out breed the mormons...muslims keep people by the fear of being killed if they quit... today at least, mormons just excommunicate.
