Fish were probably not the primary fertilizer. They rotated their crops to a new location which was prepared by burning the forest. If the soil began to wear out the crops were simply moved to a new location & the old site was abandoned and allowed to return to the wild.

well i would imagine that without all the pulutants in the air and soil that the ground was so rich then that they didnt need fertalizers.

They didn't need to. They didn't destroy the land the way agribusiness does now.
