Well, people expect a pastor to dress appropriate to sunday service, as it has been like that for years. I wonder where did that change dress code for pastors occur? Would the pastor be breaking a rule, during sunday service? That's something to look into.
Like someone said, it appears to unprofessional to come to sunday service wear short shirt, shorts and flip flops and preach? Can't blame the folks for feeling Infuriated with what they see at sunday service. Many people were raised to dress nice for sunday service, and some enjoy dressing up.
Most of all, if the pastor is great at what he preaches, and everyone loves him. Keep him, and find someone who can guide him into the right summer like pants and pale colour short shirts and shoes that have air flow in them, something that looks appropriate and comfortable for him ---Presto---Happy listeners to their favorite preacher on Sunday Service.

Well, its rather unconventional. Umm, I guess I am from the old school and would rather my Pastor wear a suit and tie or at least a suit coat and shirt or turtleneck.
He was placed as a leader of the sheep by God so I would think He'd want to represent in a respectful way.
Now if the Pastor is in a tropical area maybe he can get by.

My pastor wears a hawiian shirt & khakis all summer. As long as he is preaching the word of God, it doesn't matter to me what he wears. I grew up in a church where people cared more about what was on your back than what was in you heart, and I always felt that was wrong. I love the church I attend now where there are some people who come dressed to the nines sitting next to people wearing cut off shorts & t-shirts, all worshiping the God who cares what is in their heart, not on their back.

I think its up to him and the pastor-parish relationships committee. My old Pastor used to come in different costumes at times that went with the sermon. It was fun, made a point and the kids loved it.
I cannot think that God would care one way or the other...but oh can I imagine some spittin mad church members.

If you were going to have open heart surgery and just before they put you under you saw your surgeon dressed like that in the operating room-----would that be OK with you. Or would you think maybe someone wasn't taking it as seriously as you?
I do believe it is more a question of motive. Why would your pastor do that. Is it out of respect for God, or is it just a chance to tell people who they are? The sermon should be to put Christ first, not to show how "special" we are.

We preach in leathers and blue jeans...it's the same anointng, so I don't think it really matters.
Our pastor wears a suit, but it is because he likes a suit.
Jesus wore a robe and sandals..
Maybe they were considerd flip flops?
and John the baptist wasn't a snazzy dresser either, but no one can deny his power of preaching!

Before I became Muslim, I went to a very progressive church at which the preacher wore just that. He was a wonderful minister. I think how you relate to people is more important than how you dress in such a field. He was set on "keeping it real." Real church for real people with real issues, you know?
My becoming Muslim had nothing to do with his wardrobe, but with theological questions that Islam answered for me!

I belong to a contemporary non denominational church and that is what our pastor wears all summer long. I don't recall anywhere in the Bible where it says 'though shall not dress confortably'. In fact Jesus calls us to come to him as we are!

okay with whom? God? i'm not at all convinced He cares what you wear-He's always seemed (at least, to me) to be more concerned with what's on the inside than whats is worn on the outside...your deacon board might feel differently, however...personally, i don't care what the pastor wears-i care what message he/she brings
