Is it possible we're already in hell? I mean that quite literally too. Look at the world. Maybe most of us have it pretty good, but this planet is by far and large a giant crapfest!

What if judgement day came and went around 2000 years ago? After all, Christ's return was supposed to be quick.

And everyone still "here" is being forced to go through punishments of God's choosing.

Sooner or later, we'll all die a horrible death. Could it be that when we die, instead of rotting in the ground or burning in lake of fire, we just come back to this craphole for another round? And it never ends!

Could it be? prolly not... but oh well.

I asked a question they completely misunderstood:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AppA7tLqLVcs9_hFWdVpIl3sy6IX?qid=20070523193745AAOomjV

I.e., if they can accept childbirth as the (natural or God-directed) process that produces babies (without calling doctors "atheists"), then why not the process of evolution as the (natural or God-directed) process that produces species (wthout calling scientists "atheists").

I got two main answers from the creationists, both of which missed the point completely:
1. An attempt to debate the scientific merits of evolution.
2. An appeal to the literal interpretation of the Bible.

#1 misses the point that I was asking a *theological* question ... which is why I posted in R&S. The scientific evidence is something I can (and have) provided in *spades* in the Biology forum. Not relevant to what I'm asking.

#2 is shallow.

My question: This is supposed to be the fundamentalists' expertise! Are they even capable of theology?

what would this crazy, freaked out world come to if there was only one law to govern us all..........that you had to treat other people with the same dignity and respect that you yourself expect from others? is there any way to enforce that?

Okay, I guess I was wrong about asking such a question here. I guess most people in this world are stuck in a common belief system about after and prior life. I reccomend the Seth book by Jane Roberts and visit the jonas ridgeway website. Did any of you know that there are kids in parts of India who can cleary recall their previous life and when asked how they died they admitted to killing themselves. This alone suggest that God will give us as many chances to perfect ourselves into his image. I came to this world to be a successful writer and i'm now 44 and the stress of not achieving this goal is eating away at my body and spirit and the suicide idea was only a way to start over in a fresh new body. We are multidimensional spirits living in earthly shells. Just think of your nightly dreams of meeting dead loved ones and you'll know the answers. Not to mention all those people you know there but not here.

So if a person in today's world remains unbaptized, but still believes there is a God and He is good....isn't it the same?

My Mother passed away in December and my Brother shortly after in January (less than a month apart). We couldn't bury them, because it was winter, so we had to have them cremated and we buried them when the ground thawed out.

My question is ......

We just had their burial last week. My mother was a Catholic, and her husband is a practicing Catholic. For him and her, we held a religious ceremony, with a Catholic Priest officiating. My Brother wouldn't have cared one way or the other. (Like he said, he's dead, what does he care.) But it left me kinda empty, it really did not help me. All the "pray for us sinners" and stuff, and being welcomed home in heaven with God the Father. It was kinda creepy.

Are the funerals/burials for the dead or the one's left here?

For my own, I want it to be more neutral, appealing to both sides. Where would I be able to get some ideas for a more non-theist funeral?

Yes, I know what many of you are going to say - not to be unequally yoked. But, I am not talking about being unequally yoked. What I am talking about is meeting someone that you just know God led to you, and then he got converted. And then you got together.

Any stories would be appreciated.

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us men and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary , and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Seems like most things the bible calls "sin" actually have two parties - a sinner and the aggrieved. Homosexuality is the exception...or are there others sins that hurt nobody? Note, I'll stipulate that if you harm yourself with things like drug addictions you are both the sinner and the aggrieved (i.e. it's not victimless). Likewise I'll accept, for the sake of argument, that one can harm an all-powerful God but there's still no connection between homosexual acts and harm to God. Is there? I mean, I can see where a couple millenia back people thought it was important to go forth and populate every nook and cranny but I don't see where that objective really had any schedule attached to it (and man's been doing a bang up job of it regardless of a seemingly constant mix of homosexuals and heterosexuals).
