Christians are supposed to share the Good News, only the Holy Spirit can convert

how do YOU know that they're false better than people who live in sri lanka themselves?.think of me as an extremist if you must, but that's the plain truth.have you ever been to my country? i guess not,or you would know what the churches do...or may be you're one of those people who turn a *blind* eye...

(1) many churches dole out a monthly payment to buddhists (and hindus, but mostly buddhists) of poor areas (especially to fishermen along the coastal areas) as long as they remain christian, and offer other advantages.

(2)of course the churches help in moments of crisis, but unfortunately that's never with the motive of helping for the sake of HELPING.they use every opportunity as an opportunity to gain more converts and this is easiest when there's some unfortunate incident and people are in a weak mental state.they take advantage of people's weaknesses at times like those.

(3)usually in the case of charity,if a person stoutly refuses to convert, the help stops abruptly

(4)if a child is taken to an orphanage run by christians s/he is forced to convert,or otherwise threatened with abandonment.

(5) outrageous LIES about buddhism are told to small children to draw them away from buddhism...

i could go on and on.the list is endless.

you know, for a minute stop trying to whine and make yourself a martyr and think for a bit.what religion has caused most harm in the world? what religion has been the cause of so much slaughtering of humans all over the WORLD?compared to all the harm done by christian extremists(also muslims) any harm caused by any other religion (mind you, throughut more than 2500 years not a single drop of blood has been shed in the name of propagating buddhism) is almost negligible.
we,in sri lanka, aren't trying to harm christianity or it's followers.all we're trying to do is prevent these unjust conversions from taking place.you might well ask so why can't buddhist temples use the same methods?

(1) churches are in stronger financial positions since they get money from all the christian nations and these nations are generally rich ones

(2)but MAINLY:buddhists and buddhist monks will never NEVER stoop that low.we do not seek converts but let people seek buddhism out if they WANT to.

Is that another allegation by the Christians there whom had written defamatory remarks on buddhist culture and belief? Had you read what was written by the christians in their papers regarding buddhist over at that area?

If you had not, perhaps you would like to read it first before you comment.

By the way, how would Christians had felt if you see Pagans, Wiccan, Muslims trying to convert Christians in front of their church during good friday and christmas day stopping christians from going into the church and was told you are praying to false god and would be going to hell. Had you tried making phone call to your counterpart over sri lanka and check with them if they had done such things?

When was the last time you visited Sri Lanka?

(Of course in your view you are "saving" these people.)

i'll ask u a Q ok? would u be surprised to see a lion tearing up and eating bear flesh? no...why? because it's the normal thing for a lion to do...now would u be surprised to see a deer gulping down a tiny insect? yes, because ,even though that insect is not a patch on tearing up and eating a huge bear, still it's surprising because deer are completely vegetarian, innocent creatures.

now hopefully u'll understand the situaton of the christians and the buddhists in sri lanka.DON'T pick on irrelevant points about buddhists in other countries and about their other crimes whatever they may be ,because those points ARE,in fact, irrelevant.you asked about sri lankan buddhists and their tolerence and that's what i'm answering.

how much do u know of sri lankan history and its people? have u ever even been there? i've been there quite a lot to study buddhism and its culture and since i've studied buddhist history ,i'm generally in the know about sri lankan history too.the 2 are bound together mostly.so i know what i'm talking about when answering these sort of questions

when the British invaded, the buddhists were tortured to death unless they converted.even little children were cruelly killed if their parents refused to convert.women were raped at the englishmen's will.jobs were given exclusively for christians.by these horrifying methods (read on SL history and you'll realize how gruesome the christian invasion era really was-IN DETAIL) christians managed to convert 4-5% of the sri lankan population to christianity (so now u can realize how brave the people were....even with all this horror, and a horendous number of brutal murders ,only that small percentage was converted.the rest who preferred to die rather than convert into this false, brutal religion were true patriots )...and btw, tamil hindus weren't tortured as much as the sinhala buddhists because as a majority,it ws always the sinhala people who led revolutions and naturally this made the british more averse to the sinhalese.tamils were converted mostly by offering advantages and making them school in christian schools etc.

at the time of gaining independence also the christian population was about 4-5%.now,if the buddhists really are such "extremists" as u accuse them of being, when they got their country back from the british ,couldn't they (as the massive majority population of sri lanka) have used the same methods as the christians used to convert buddhists and converted those people back to buddhism?

it wouldn't have been hard at all because those people who converted in the 1st place didn't convert because of any love of God or other such nonsense, they were people who converted for money and other advantages.if the buddhists had taken a similar stand and given jobs exclusively to buddhists, there's no doubt about it,the christian population would've dwindled.and dwindled FAST too.however, the christian population today has risen to about 6-7%

there's a difference between a person causing violence to propagate one's beliefs (as christians did) and a person fighting to uphold his own beliefs (as buddhists did).

since SO MUCH violence has occurred due to christians,it's hardly more than a commonplace topic now (think of the lion),but since not much is caused by buddhists, the moment something small happens,it's treated as a big deal(think of the deer).

and don't for a minute think that christians DON'T use unethical means to convert people in sri lanka even today, they may not kill, but they are not the most respectable.so can u blame the rest of the buddhists for wanting to prevent these atrocities taking place in their country?

Your correct....the world is going mad......madder than ever. Secondly, Buddhism is not a religion, it is a practiced philosopy of life. Now then, you must remember that no matter the religious affiliation or philosophy that man follows, men fall from grace and can turn into animals in a moments notice. The Spanish Inquisition and the witch hunts being examples. I like to tell people that the Earth has passed through a cosmic cloud, currently undetected by scientists, an invisible virus cloud that has infected the minds of men with insanity.

Never heard the term "extremist buddhists". I always find the xians to be extremists and parasitical forcing conversion by any means possible. Why can't xians ever mind their own business?

I would like to stop conversions to xianity all over the world...oh you must think me an extremist. I'll take that as a compliment.

Thanks for the info iammeanandnobodyelse... You're right that's pretty grotty stuff.... very manipulative and mean. I personally don't see anything wrong with Buddhism. To me Buddhist practices seem very compatible with Christianity.

I do however see something wrong with only helping people who are of my faith, BECAUSE they are of my faith, and withdrawing support from children for any reason. I also see something wrong with "forcing" conversion, because such an action of course leads to great insincerity (people living a lie of the conscience). It just goes to show how the churches of Christianity have fallen from their original moorings in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I am sure many good-hearted Christians would be appalled at this kind of behaviour.

sri lanka is a HUGE country when it comes to buddhism. its very tiny too. so of course they wouldn't like their own ppl being converted to christianity. christians use unethical ways to convert ppl.

Don't know about that, don't watch much news, but what are they trying to convert them to? Isn't this bliss-full place enough? ~ : )

Because there is a Suppressive Person inciting violence.

It is not either religion that has caused this conflict.

You will find in the middle of it a person of ill intention creating and fueling the injustice.
