I find it rather sad, that you guys do not have anything else to think about....and yet I find it interesting you are fixated on what Kirk had to say....maybe it has made you "think" and now you wonder if there could actually be a designer for nature and things of the earth. Even if his argument was not as strong as it could of been....Kirk still makes an excellent point.

there are so many types of religions out there. so many beliefs and practices. ( im including the atheist for discussion purposes) are we missing the point where the religion we believe in(or lack thereof) define the way we are?? i mean, its about people right?? how people are and what we do that defines us?? for example i see preachers condemning every other religion and its followers and the atheist saying all religion sucks... your views please. and thanks. no offense to anyone

this is a question asked a while back. I want current views on it.

Thank you JAZ for the insperation

How many of you have reached this height of knowing?

What passages of the Bible have you, personally, found hard to understand the meaning of?

Please don't give me stories and concepts that don't "make sense" to you (i.e. "The story of creation, the story of noah's ark, the death/rebirth don't make any sense."). And, please don't give me stories and concepts that you find contradictory, etc...

But rather, please tell me specific passages within the Bible that you, personally, have found hard to understand the meaning to.

Thank You.
Peace and Love!

I know a lot of people believe in the biblical god but don't believe the 7-day creation story should be taken literally. There are other stories in the bible that would seem far-fetched to our modern sensibilities. For example:
- did methuselah really live for over 900 years?
- did jonah really spend 3 days in the belly of a whale?
- did moses really part the red sea?
- did noah really get 2 of every species of animal on board the ark?
- did jesus really walk on water, turn water into wine, and feed 5000 people with a single loaf of bread?

do you interpret some, all, or none of these stories literally? if some but not all, how do you make the distinction?

1) I think as a pagan living in a mostly Christian neighbourhood in the conservative SOUTH I have it FAR worse than most Christians and you don't hear me whining about how unpopular I am or how much Christians find fault with MY beliefs or condemn me and MY family

2) You ARE the majority religion in this part of the world.

3) You are the RICHEST religion in the world.

4) You currently have MAJOR political clout

What is your whining about? So not EVERYONE likes your religion so WHAT? So not EVERYONE agrees with you, so WHAT? So people come in here and ask challenging questions about your faith or critique your doctrine, SO WHAT? The Romans used to throw your forebearers to the lions and I am sure they NEVER used to whine as much as some of you do.

Why does it hurt your feelings so much when you cannot be popular EVERYWHERE you go?
Why do you feel this sense of entitlement to be COODLED and PRAISED for your beliefs by everyone and get VEXED when you are not?

The Bible is comparable to state statutes. It sets out the general rules as to what is right and what is wrong. In the American legal system, courts interpret the laws and clear up gray areas that are not specifically covered by statutes. Opinions issued by courts are published in reporters and are available to the public. These opinions have just as much authority as statutes. In religion, God is the equivalent of the court system, in that when we die, he will supposedly tell us what we did wrong and will sentence us to our punishment or send us on to heaven. During their lifetimes, religious people debate over the gray areas that are not specifically or clearly addressed in the Bible (masturbation, stem cell research, abortion, etc.) According to the religious, God will answer all of these questions when we die. The difference with religion is that the opinions that God issues to these people when they die are not published in any reporter for any of us to see. Can you imagine if our legal system did not inform the public of decisions it made in court cases? What if we just had to wait until our day in court to know whether or not something was going to be considered illegal?

It's like kids when they first start telling knock-knock jokes. The jokes are stale and often don't make any sense, but the kids still laugh at themselves to no end as if they are the greatest comedians in the world.

since bananas, of course, prove god's existance without a doubt, i think that would scare atheists like garlic does to vampires.

imagine, all this time we were looking for proof of god, and it was right here in the form of a banana. and all this time, i thought the proof was in a rainbow. well i'm glad we cleared this up. so, are bananas to atheists like garlic to vampires? are atheists scared now they they know the "truth"?????

There seems to be a lot of anger and hate directed at all Christians. Christianity is almost the only religion countries don't force on people, but if Atheists had their way they would shut our mouths for good. I don't get it...
