If there are people who truly believe there is no God, then who are they to think they are superior to animals? They are just a species. Killing an animal is just as evil as killing a human being. Why would they care about other people? Survival of the fittest. Biologically, there is no reason why people should care for anyone else besides there own blood. Why would someone get married? Why should they? Men can reproduce so much more and carry on their genes if they are permiscuious. If you are an athiest, why on earth would you get married? Who or what tells you that you are better than a dog? An athiest biologist I had in college stated that we are the most "intellectual" beings, there for we are "superior". Well, what about the stupid people? I know some people who are less itelligent than dolfins. Are these people less superior then?

Don't people tire of asking pathetic questions of the Christians and why do Christians keep on taking the bait and answer?

"A man can have sexual pleasure from a child as young as a baby.
However, he should not penetrate. If he penetrates and the child is
harmed then he should be responsible for her subsistence all her life.
This girl, however would not count as one of his four permanent wives".

I am just curious. I decided to have Jesus tear out the lawn he just laid for me and have it replaced with bark and a really nice stone walkway to my porch. I feel bad making him do it because him, jose, miguel, and paco really did a good job and I am sure they could get much more lucractive work if I stopped picking them up in front of the hardware store.

"The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, [even] us, who [are] all of us here alive this day. "

Any Bible scholars able to make sense of this? It would seem to imply that there are in fact two covenants in the old testament, one with Abraham, and one with Moses, the latter being about the law and earthly living. Could this also explain (and I'm just asking) why so many get confused about law vs. grace, in that they think works will get them to heaven, when it was never that way even from the beginning?

Would you be embarrassed and ask Him to not be so convicting? Would you ask Him to leave because He was too radical and offending people? What would you do?

Common sense and continuing education tells me that religion is nonsense. Despite this I happen to believe it's necessary and good for religion to exist. Without religion to fill certain emotional needs or to serve as their purpose in life, I believe a large number of the less intelligent or willfully ignorant people on the earth would self destruct and take out rational people with them. Anyway, this theory is a work in progress and I’d be happy to hear your opinions. What are your thoughts on this?

PS. When I say religion I can only speak of the ones I’ve investigated. These include Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and a few smaller ones.

In anthropological terms:
- Social movements (eg feminism, environmentalism, etc) are a way of bringing about secular social change.
- Cults are a way of bringing about religious social change.

The term "cult" does not have negative connotations when applied to anthropology (ie the study of human interactions).

In anthropology, the term "cult" could be described as "a radical group or off-shoot that reinterprets existing religious ideology to bring about change within society".

By this definition, Christianity is a cult of Judaism, protestantism is a cult of Catholicisim, and Sikhism is a cult of Islam, etc.

Protestant Christians: Is reinterpretation of protestant religious ideology acceptable, given that protestantism was originally a reinterpretation of Catholicism?

I am curious. I have heard that Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate birthdays. I am interested in knowing why. Please site sources. Also, is the reason for not celebrating Christmas the same? (being that some people celebrate it as Christs birthday)..

This is a serious question, so please, those who like to be jerks about things, don't bother answering. Thanks.

earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.

Sure, your ancestors did it.
Now, you reap the benefit of their crimes.
How does your religion feel about that?
I know you, as individual Americans are ok with it, but does your religion have anything to say?

I haven't bothered going to church in almost 8 years, but my sister and brother-in-law were trying to talk to me about religion recently. I think they're in a pseudo-christian cult, but I'm not sure since Christianity has "changed so much" in the last 5 - 6 years. Also, a girl I used to be friends with in high school got bitchy at me because she feels superior now that she finished college but I didn't, and she is still Christian but I'm not.

I'm interrested in learning about what "modern Christianity" is really all about. I have been told that it has changed dramatically from what I knew because of all these new political issues. I can't imagine it being that different from what I knew growing up. I think these people are mixing politics and religion in ways they don't fully understand. But I did get kind of twisted by what I was taught, and what I learned, and what I thought I knew up through high school.

All it takes is just a moment of time to look out the window and see the flowers in bloom or hear the birds singing. Look into the face(s) of your children or gaze at the stars.

I know I am about to receive a multitude of harsh answers and comments. And that is just fine with me.

If people want proof that God is real, I have an idea. Instead of bashing Christians and trying to incite an angry response from believers, just ask God personally. I promise you that He will answer you in the same manner you ask. You may not like the answer, but then did you always like the answers your biological parents gave? Yet you won't deny their existence.

Hmmmm...

Think about that for a minute.
