Can anyone say that Jesus' message of peace, love and forgiveness has been corrupted, and if so, how could it have been any more corrupted than "love your enemies"?

I'm talking about here as in Religion and Spirituality section?

I see hundreds of Christians who sit here all day and answer the questions of Atheists. Is that because thats all they teach in Christian schools, or is it because they lack the faith so they come here to boost their self esteem?

How about answering questions in other sections? What? you telling me Christian Schools dont teach anything else?

Inlighten me.

Paul wrote, "If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed. O Lord, come!" The word here is anathema in the Greek, and means "a (religious) ban or (concretely) excommunicated (thing or person)" (Thayer's). If one does not love the Lord as he ought, then this one has brought a curse upon himself. Paul is not commanding Christians to "curse" the individual, he is revealing what that person has brought upon themselves.

so can we perhaps be a little kinder christians? This is after all gods word, so perhaps a little less of the "you will go to hell" stuff? (maybe you could just sit smugly smiling to yourself instead?)

Many times, the father is the only one who works because the mother is at home with 5+ kids. And they may not even have enough money for basic necessities for that many people, never mind any occasional splurges. But their church tells them it is God's will to live like that. What kind of God would truly endorse that?

As our world governments are coming closer and closer to the idea of tracking every individual, at all times....

What would you do if ALL the world governments...tomorrow... were to invoke the requirement that every human being must be branded with a inbedded tracking chip... and that this chip would be your only way to live and work within this world?

((i.e. All monetary exchanges, All travel, All work, etc etc etc is monitored and recorded by this chip))

What would you do?

Would you allow yourself be implanted with the chip, or would you become a fugitive to this and run?

According to the ancient Hindu texts, Hindus are actually NOT permitted to build idols of the holy scared deities. Thus, in essence (on a theoretical level at least) Hinduism ironically is not an idol worshipping religion because we are not "supposed" to build idols. The reason for this was because the ancients were worried in case the sacred idols were not treated with proper care, respect and may be disrespected.

Today, I can finally understand why that particular religious rule was espoused. In today's world the idols of Hindu deities are treated worse than rubbish. Hindus keep stacks and stacks of idols in their domestic shrines which they do not bother to clean, wash and nurture. Pictures of Hindu deities are printed on hand bags, T-shirts, calendars, food boxes, incense tins - all of which end up in the bin. In India, shoe polishers even keep photos of deities in their shoe cleaning box!!! In Holland they even have a statue of my beloved Shiva in a Cannabis clinic!!!

we know that less intelligent people tend to be less questioning - therefore lower intelligence = more faith.

Wouldn't a retard make the most faithful and unquestioning Christian?

atheists and agonostic please show some respect and not leave any snide remarks. I'm not a Christian, But do defend it along with all religions. When an atheist asks a question why have I seen no good answers from you. I respect your believes, but do you realise that faith will not convert. do you belive in intelectualism or do you belief prayer will answer it all. and finally how much of the bible have you studied

Separate categories for Buddists, Christians, Mormons, Jews, Atheists, Muslims, etc. ? Wouldn't that eliminate all the "shock" questions for other religions, the trolling, rudeness, etc. ? Then serious questions could be asked and answered...similar beliefs shared...and there could be PEACE on R&L? :)

OK, I am a pretty good Catholic (or so I like to think), but I will have to admit: There are a LOT of religions out there, and if everyone except for (insert religion here) is going to hell, it will be a VERY crowded place. Especially if the "correct" religion is one other than Catholics or Muslims, because they make up about 1/3 of the world's population.

But anyway, I have heard many people say "My religion is the only way to heaven". Now, I may agree with that phrase, except for one word: MY.

I do believe this is a fundamentalist Christian viewpoint which is quickly disappearing, but think about it. What if someone was born, say Hindu. They follow all the Hindu religious rites, and even live the way Jesus preached, but they never go to Christian mass (because they are not Christian). Are they going to hell?

What about people who never HEAR of Jesus, but yet may live a life as wholesome as any Christian? Are THEY going to hell?

What do you say???

Some on here think everyone is a child of God, but the Bible teaches differently, only the "elect" are God's children, yes He has made all of us- but He only lives in those who are saved, and he calls them "His children" --not saying this to stir up trouble, just to defend the word of God. I hope and pray MANY come to be a child of God! Also we are called "his sheep" in John.
Romans 9:8
In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring.
-The natural children are those who are not ever going to be saved, but only the chosen are God's children---the children of promise. Romans is a great book to read concerning all of this.

Do any of you think that perhaps we anthropomorphize God too much (i.e. give God human attibutes that it doesn't actually have) in order to better relate with this being/energy/higher power?

If yes, do you think anthropomorphizing God into a being like humans creates more problems than it solves?

If no, do you think anthropomorphizing God solves more problems than it creates?

As an educated American I am well aware that Islam is a religion of peace like any other religion widely accepted worldwide. I am also well aware that Jews have peacefully coexisted with Muslims in Spain in the past before the crusades. Since Muslims are also the children of Abraham should't we be brothers? Is there anything that can be done for Palestinians and Israelis to coexist peacfully as a pluralistic society? I would love to hear your veiwpoints. What can Israel do to appease conflict perminantly. (I am also well aware that most Muslims condemn Islamic Extremism as much as Jews condemn the "dome of the rock bomb attempt" and Christians condemn the eric reuban rudolph or the klu klux klan. I am kinda on the fence. I have heard that people need something to believe in so they believe in him. I disagree. There is substantial scientific evidence that Adam and Eve werent the first people on the Earth. And the bible says that he just plopped them on the Earth when it was clearly evolution that made the first humans. If one part of the bible is wrong, then what stops me from believing that everything else in it is faulty? I also believe that religion was just made up because of profit and jobs were created. Also, if god is so almighty then why does he allow terrorists and other bad things like that to happen?.... i am just confused

How is that not negative? My mom is a Christian and believes things of me. I told her that her negative opinions of me are wearing off on my kids and that she needs to keep her distance. She is very hurt as she doesn't think she 'says' anything about her beliefs and doesn't have a negative point of view... just a truthful one. She doesn't have to say anything.. her beliefs show very well without words.

How is believing these things about me NOT negative.. I just don't understand how she can't see that is insutling to me and was affecting my children and their view of their own life and mother?

And how can she tell me she IS proud of me that she DOES love me 'more then words can say' and yet not be able to deny that she believes the above things? I don't get it...
