Fortunately, I belong to a Christian denomination that doesn't ask me to check my brain at the door. At church every Sunday, I'm surrounded by doctors, scientists, professors, philosophers and other thinking people. Why would anybody wish to stifle their intellect and creativity? Belief involves actively questioning, researching and exploring one's faith, not mindlessly following a leader. Christians were never intended to be unquestioning, brainless automatons. As for people with diminished reasoning, they understand God as they are able. However, to expect a person of normal intelligence to stoop to that level in order to somehow boost their faith is absurd.

Beware the believers. Drop the Belief Bomb, fundamentalist religions are killing us.
It really appears that the religious right in the world are trying to perpetuate prophecies in their holy books, destruction, mayhem & murder all in the name of their god. Faith is a double-edged sword.
Not all religious or faithful people are horrible or stupid people, as long as they are spiritually & mentally balanced persons. If they are just brainwashed & take their book literally than it clarifies that they are just as ignorant, if not more on some level than most. I think it's all out fear, fear of other cultures, fear of being alone, fear of death & what might be on the other side.
Lower intelligence = more faith?
I think the equation is more like;
religious hypocrites = low self-esteem = more bigotry = lower intelligence in an perpetual loop of intolerence & denial.

My God Daughter has down syndrome. She's the happiest kid I know, and most loving!
I prefer to use my mind toward the knowledge of the word of God. It proves itself useful to me all the time.
You use your intelect however you choose.
