I've heard that the land can be haunted. You don't know what was there before unless the land records can give you some clue. Some houses have been haunted by past residents of other homes in that location that no longer exist. Or a home could be built over a gravesite of a restless spirit...who knows?

I don't really believe in ghosts but when I was a student I leased an old colonial house with some other students and it spooked me out, I discovered that the family who had lived there had lost their son at sea ( I have their name but it would be wrong to post it here) the family kept his room much the same after he went missing...my room! I painted the room white and packed up his stuff and then I moved in, at night I would wake after having disturbing dreams of a corpse laying next to me silently, all black and decomposing... I never really felt comfortable there and a couple years after I moved out I read that the house had burned down and three children left alone there had died ...I don't know whether the house was haunted by the past lost son of this family or by the future fire disaster but I could feel something really bad when I was there and I'm glad I moved out or it might have been me in that fire.
