God gave us free-will to choose because He wanted us to choose to love Him. He did not want to program us like robots to love Him because that would not be real love. Instead He gave us free-will so that if we did choose to love Him He would feel the full extent of that love. Unfortunately He also couldn't give us "selective" free-will as it were so with that ability to love Him also came the ability to hate Him. As for why God cares if we go to hell God said in His word (which won't do you much good if you don't believe in Him) that He is "... not willing that any should parish but that all should come to repentance," (2 Pet. 3:9). Hope that answers your questions.

Exactly, and that is why He has not given us the free will to choose Him, but HE CHOOSES US (John 6:44, John 15:16, Romans 8 and Romans 9, and plenty more scripture explains this)
It is our sinful nature that causes us to sin, and many will remain hard at heart, and never receive the Lord---but we are all going to be held accountable to the Lord someday--and everyone will be judged. Those that believe in the Lord will pass from judgment to life (heaven) those that did not believe will have to pay the consequence (hell) just like our justice system has it's ways, so does God- and He hates sin. He made a way for us to be forgiven, through Jesus Christ, which means HE DOES CARE. There is no greater love than that! But sin will separate you from God for eternity---your sinful nature must be washed clean, and it is only through the blood of Christ, and only God can soften your heart.....that is why we share His word and pray many receive it- that the Lord would work in many hearts and open their eyes.
Romans 3:19
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
(And this is God's law we have all sinned against as Romans 3:23 says, once you are saved, you are under the GRACE of God, and no longer under the law--- for it is only by grace you are saved, nothing you do can get you to heaven- says Ephesians 2:8)

I've often wondered this myself. If you accept the idea everything happens according to a god's "plan," why would anyone be punished at all? Everything that happens is supposed to happen. We are always told by Christians "Everything happens for a reason." Therefore, no one should have to worry about heaven or hell because everyone is doing exactly what the gods want. I've never been given a straight answer to this.

From my perspective as a Christian, God made everything and gave us all we have. He has the right to our obedience and faithfulness. Our earthly parents have obligations and responsibilities to us, but we also have obligations toward them, too. Ideally, parents set rules that teach their children responsibilty and discipline.
If they tell a child to take out the trash or clean his room, that's a reasonable request. The child may not understand why it's necessary, but the parent is acting out of the child's best interest.
We have some responsibilities toward our Father in Heaven, too, and one of them is to do what He asks of us. He set certain rules and expects His children to follow them for their own good and protection.
Accepting Christ's atoning death on the Cross is the most important act of obedience, and if a person rejects Him as their Savior, then they've made their own decision about where they're going to spend eternity.
That's the "house rules" that God has set into place because He is in charge, not us. We have the choice of rebelling or obeying. No other explanation is necessary or offered.

My Gods don't to each his own. An Harm ye none, do what thou will.
I can understand why Atheists are atheists. They demand proof. Based on their experiences, they've seen nothing that can prove the existance of God and until there is, which is unlikely for them, they will remain Atheists. Cool with me.
Peace.

Hindus don't even have a hell pal. Sit back and relax; if we're right you can chill in heaven, if we're wrong your a corpse and won't be able to tell anyways. Hell, at least, is completely illogical for a deity. It is just a tool of manipulation, through fear.

There is no hell. God does not care if you believe or not.
Only (some) religions care.

you make a very important point...a "god" who was secure in who/what he/she is wouldn't care, would he? IF this god were to exist, he/she gave us intelligence...and intelligence tells us that the "god" concept is really way out there....so, if "god" gave us intelligence, the I would think he/she would be proud that we used it! Oh, well, I think I am fighting a loosing battle here...too many sheep following blindly through life.

He said we could do what we like, but he didn't say there wouldn't be consequences. As for caring, I doubt any god would care.
