If I didn't want you to? I mean it. What if something totally outrageous happened to me, or to you, I am so fricking deluded that I don't follow your religion..

And I tell everyone, "Please do not pray for me. Do not waste your time. If you have any respect for me and my dignity, you will not pray for me."

Would you do it anyway?

If you agree, would you say something nice about people who don't believe the same way you do?

Thankyou all for your answers, it seems that the best answer was "god has always been", magnifacent answer, how ever, there is something you missed, something that if put together right can answer the question, but if wrong will do the oposite. "if god has always been around, before our time, then why did he not make earth 1 hundred billkezillion years ago? why did he wait, if hes so almighty he could have made the earth before, and not have to wait. why did he?".

why not do everything, no matter what, to stop it. there is about 1,300,00 abortions in america every year in the U.S.
if it truelly is genocide, why not bomb abortion clinics? or in the least, harrass and kill a few key people, for effect? You might say that god doesn't want people using those tactics, but then again most americans felt that god was in accordance with the wars that the U.S. have started (vietnam, Iraq, etc.)
Is it because you view abortion as very different than cold murder? Is god gonna punish those who vote for a woman's right to choose? In what way will he condemn these sinners?
i do not feel this way, i am just showing how theologically unsound it is to condemn abortion. If you want to say it is evil, than you can't sit on the fences. If abortion it is a terrible thing that must be stopped in the lord's name, then it is a shame the most people do is sit on their couches (sorry, stand in front of buildings with picket signs) and verbally condemn abortion.

I have a curious question on just how much anyone [All people] love others.

All of this is hypothetical absolutes. You cannot say, "I'd feed him grass," or anything, as you have two choices; yes, or no.

If you were with a starving child, and the literal only thing you can feed it is a chunk of your own flesh, from your arm. You don't need to take more than 6 ounces off, but you have to remove it yourself. Would you remove the flesh from your body [You have a sharp knife.] to save the child's life, despite the fact this is cannibalism?

If you object, why? Is it a religious objection, or just your selfishness?

Thanks.

1. The world is flat
-I guess genesis just made more sense that way. How else could things possibly fall down!?

Any takers?
2. The earth is the center of the universe
-That would make sense if believing in God made sense. Sadly the sun does not revolve around us and sadly the rest of the universe doesn't either.

3. The flood wiped out humanity
-Unfortunately the chinese empire has no such records of a 4000 b.c. flood wiping out their people. Oh well. If only the Hebrew culture were the oldest...

4. The jews wanted to leave Egypt
-In fact, according to Egyptian and Mediterranean history, the Egyptians NEVER enslaved the Jews. The Egyptians KICKED THEM OUT because they were taking up too many resources. I guess when you write the history books, you don't want your grandchildren to think you got kicked out a country for being parasites.

I often hear it said that the existence of God cannot be tested for experimentally.

It's true that it is hypothetically possible for God to have set the laws of physics before the Big Bang and he now only passively watches the universe unfold. This cannot be tested for. However, it is also not the type of God that most people believe in.

Most people believe that God exists, is almighty, and is omniscient. If we assume these things to be true, can we experimentally test any other aspects of his nature? How?

Are there any other assumptions that we would need to make?

It seems like they think they're better than me because they have a God. They seem so self assured that their 'soul' (whatever that is) will go to 'heaven' where as mine will go to 'hell'. I don't go around telling them that it takes a unique blend of courage, intelligence and determination to be an Atheist which are qualities that Christians lack.

I'm asking this seriously, not as to offend anyone, just to see what people who "know" or "believe" differently than me think.

For the Christians -
Do you really think that the earth is only thousands of years old?
If you think it's older than that, how do you explain dinosaurs?

For those who aren't Christians but don't believe in evolution.
Do you think dinosaurs were made up?
Do you think fossils are fake?
If they are fake, who made them up?

I know I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this, and I accept this. Please bear in mind that this is simply rhetorical and I already know I'm a heretic and I'm going to hell, so bear with me.

Ok, we've got a culture that will stone a woman to death for having a child outside of wedlock. We've got a young woman who's *gasp* pregnant out of wedlock. Her and the soon to be husband (heck, maybe it's not even his kid...) decide "here's the plan, Mary, we tell EVERYONE about this dream you had......"

The apostles were just people who were in on the secret, the wise men were giving a little payoff for the read dad not having a bad mark on his name by being named as the father to some hussy....

Oooo, they're gonna be mad at me... my brain was just wandering earlier today, and I said to myself, I says, "Self, you better not ask this on Y!A, you know they're gonna tear you apart." and I says back to myself, "They can take some fun poking, they're all big kids."... we'll see who's right.

Hello,

I really don't mean to offend by asking this question, so please don't anybody be offensive in their answer.

I just wondered about when muslim women are covered up all the time they are outside, how do they make enough vitamin D? How do they experience periferal vision and wind in their hair and rain on their skin ?

I am very focused on my connection with nature and I love to go to wild places by myself and feel wild/free/peaceful. I also dress pretty modestly all the time,(ie I dont show off anything except my arms and lower legs - which I don't think of as sexual).

What I want to know (honestly, without judgement) is why in some cultures women feel they must cover themselves completely?

Knowing you are going to be killed and doing nothing about it is called suicide. By definition a martyr is "one who chooses death rather than renounce religious beliefs". And the definition of suicide is "the act of taking ones own life, or choosing death for oneself". For instance, let's say you are told "If you leave the house tomorrow you will die". By leaving the house you have actively commit suicide. If I throw you into a pool and you refuse to swim, you have passively commit suicide. Matyrdom is just a passive suicide. For some reason, most people don't realize this.

Since gay animals are found in the wild, homosexuality must have some natural (IE genetic) basis. This has been proven through irregular growths in the SDN-POA, Amygdala, and Hypothalamus. See: Kluverbucy syndrome. So either animals are sinners, or Christians need to retranslate the bible one more time.

Any takers?

One of the key distinctions of Islam vs any other religion you care to discuss, is the idea that God finally decided to give us a "complete" code of law, not just general moral principles to follow, or a couple of commandments, but a huge volume of exact laws for everything.

Ever hear the common Islamic refrain of "Islam is not just a religion, its a complete way of life". How about this one "Islam is not just our religion, its everyones!" These concept's just doesnt sink in to the average westerner...they dont fully grasp what a Muslim means when he says this. When Muslims say this, its not simply a passionate expression of belief, but more like an officer giving an alien a lecture about the primacy of the law, whether you want to obey is irrelevent.

Western Muslims (.01% of the Islamic world) are really the only segment of the Islamic world that even try to apologize for this doctrine (they have more to lose), its a mainstream tenet or concept of Islam. A core doctrine.

"Truth is stranger than fiction."

This is creation and evolution, although creation is the truth to most it seems stranger than fiction(evolution).

What do you think?
