Knowing you are going to be killed and doing nothing about it is called suicide. By definition a martyr is "one who chooses death rather than renounce religious beliefs". And the definition of suicide is "the act of taking ones own life, or choosing death for oneself". For instance, let's say you are told "If you leave the house tomorrow you will die". By leaving the house you have actively commit suicide. If I throw you into a pool and you refuse to swim, you have passively commit suicide. Matyrdom is just a passive suicide. For some reason, most people don't realize this.

Your syllogism and definition of suicide isn't complete. Suicide additionally demands the act of killing ones self. Jesus didn'tcontinual the nails into His hands and ft. He additionally did no longer stab Himself with the spear. a individual on loss of life row knows he's going to die. He knew he ought to get that sentence in the past he dedicated the crime that positioned him in that place. yet he would not kill himself, his executioner does. Jesus did have the potential to end the execution yet submitted to it yet that would not make Him His very own executioner. multiple the Jews pressed the Romans into that job. they had the unfastened will option to be certain to enable Jesus stay. they chosen to kill Him. now we manage to love Him for the Sacrifice He made for us. what can we elect? to boot: I only observed that there are some responces that question whether or no longer Jesus ever existed. an undemanding visual appeal in background type might help. His existence is a historic actuality, no longer purely Biblically, yet all background books teach His existence and all religions communicate of Him (no longer that they suspect Him to be God, they only be attentive to the reality of His existence). He had too huge of an effect, and become written approximately via too many non Christians to be made up. And there have been too many witnesses. Are you stupid sufficient to think of that Christian haters might search out human beings and kill them for following an imaginary individual? discover out with reference to the international you reside in.

Obviously you have not read Matthew , Mark, Luke, and John the Gospels telling of Jesus' life and death and resurrection! well.... He was obeying God his father and because He LOVED YOU HE DIED FOR YOU So YOU could live in heaven with him when you die! But first you have to ask for forgiveness and believe he died for you and rose again! that is the way to heaven

By your definition, Jesus did not take his own life and did not choose death. He never inclined that he wanted to be killed.

He did not kill himself. He allowed himself to be killed so that we COULD live!!! Look at it this way, if someone held a gun to your head and said, choose: either you go and I bomb these other 100,000 people hostage in this room, or, you die, and everyone else goes free. Lets say you choose to die, you just saved 100,000 lives!!! You didn't pull the trigger, but you could have saved yourself. Is that suicide? Thats what Jesus did, only difference, he saved TRILLIONS, and rose from the dead 3 days later. Please, Please, Please, if you have ANY questions, e-mail me. I would LOVE to answer them.

Taking a stand is active, even if martyrdon is passive.
They are not mutually exclusive, oddly enough.
