I think what you will find is that the number of religious people is certainly on the decline, but the number of true born again Christians is on the rise.
The 'tradition' of the whole family going to Church because that is what you do on a Sunday is well gone for most people. This as you know used to be a major tradition and made up the majority of Church goers for centuries.
Couple that with the fact of some of what are called 'the established Churches' watering down The Gospel, failing to take a stand against many issues that are contrary to scriptures - on one hand becoming staid and irrelevant to the people today and on the other hand incorporating too much of the world in an effort to attract more people - the result of which is that people then begin to wonder what is Church really about - just another club...
What you will find is that in Churches where The Gospel is preached in its fullness, where they are relevant and reach out to people, where they have not compromised or tried to become too much like the world - the number of people who are getting saved and going to Church because they want to, because that is their heartfelt desire, to praise and worship God, to be with other born again Christians in well on the increase.

Historically the established church, the Bishops etc held the seats in the House of Lords, this encouraged cynicism about their motives. they were seen as rich and self-interested and as allied to the old rich land owners. The church also tried to repress much of social/sexual revolution in the country in the first half of the century. Britain's broadly liberal and socially inclusive society also showed people that you didn't need a god to live a moral life and the example of the vicious Roman Catholics and Protestant feud in Northern Ireland didn't help. Add to that Gay Vicar jokes, the sense that the church wasn't real and you have the picture. Since then the crazy antics of foreign fundamentalists have reinforced the idea that fervent belief is a bad idea. British people do go to Church, when they are born, sometimes at Christmas, when they get married and when they die. Apart from that they don't bother God and he doesn't bother them.

Lots of reasons, firstly apathy towards religion in general has increased because many see little relevance in Christianity in today's society. Society promotes goals such as image, fitness and materialism as the goals to work towards and that is in direct contrast to Christianity. Often people just can't be bothered to go to church.
Many churches stayed "traditional" in both service structure and attitude and this discouraged many young people from staying regular church-goers. Some churches have reversed the trend and offer courses and talks to engage people. Christian Unions at universities tend to boost church attendance, as for many younger Christians it is the first time they've met other young Christians. This illustrates a fundamental problem with many churches.
Atheism has become "fashionable" as books such as "The DaVinci Code" and "The God Delusion" enter the popular consciousness. Also many people believe that religion is to blame for most wars, the Middle-East conflict and the "War on Terror" are seen as religious rather than nationalistic, driven by revenge or greed for oil.

It has not declined in all denominations. The pentecostal/charismatic ones are doing very well.
Church of England has always been very compromising to internal dissent. This is very wise in a way, but means it can look as if they don't really believe in anything. That is not inspiring to the onlooker. Why should I believe if they don't believe in themselves
Not making good the case for christianity with evolution. The evolutionary theory needs to be addressed to make room for God in it, but christians don't seem to have bothered. This means atheists are convincing people more than they should be able to.
So many things to do ....
-stressful jobs
-so much tv, all sorts of new channels
-all sorts of beliefs that look plausible or interesting people didnt think about much before
-now the internet!
General smugness, pride, comfort means a gospel where people have to accept they are sinners before getting into the great bit of relationship with God is not so appealing.

I was not aware of this in Britain that church attendance
declined
And maybe for the same reasons in America why church
attendance is declining
because some churches in my personal opinion are just
to critical of other people and they just love to judge and
condemn other people and other christians and just
attack them because of who they are and sins they have
commited
And some of these other churches are not a friendly
christian church at all and talk about hatred and the meaness

Because Britain is turning into a country of shallow minded people that are full of shite, atheists talk shite, have not got a clue the damage they are doing to this country, church's were responsible for holding communities together now there is no community and no moral fibre, the poor are being battered by the media as the money people buy up the housing market to rent out at extortionate prices to cover the mortgage the tenant is not allowed to have because the banks say they cannot afford it of which they can't, how dare atheist mock the church when for centuries it has given people hope and something to work for, they go on about all the wars it has caused, twisted or greedy men in the name of religion cause war not religion, religion is designed to bring people together and give them common ground. Now there is nothing but B@Q and Dixons if you can afford it. And that is what its all about money be warned.

Churches aren't relevant anymore - they have strayed from the bible and become too judgemental.
The problems of Christianity pale in comparison to Islam however. What was once a wonderful religion in principle has been corrupted to a creed of hate by a few rotten Imams. All those responsible will burn for eternity.

that's no longer desperately clean that it has. Now that church attendance is now no longer legally required (replaced into once) or effectively socially required (in case you necessary to look of sturdy personality in the eyes of you company) Then we may nicely be seeing some thing closer the share of *certainly* Christians, as adverse to those for whom it replaced into in basic terms custom or social conformity. a huge majority at the same time as "each body else replaced into doing it." apparently a case may be made for some American words and accents protecting very old English utilization, and as a outcome being the more beneficial archaic, in a impartial experience, having replaced decrease than English English because the time of the Mayflower. the yankee utilization of "the fall" case in point isn't a clean-coining, yet a upkeep of an Anglo-Saxon expression which in England fell out of use, being replaced with the Latin-depending "autumn."

As we have become more informed, we have become less affected by the 'Fear of God', ( unless we're catholic and have a particularly grim priest ).
The greater the knowledge we have gained, the better we are able to (subconciously) question the basic principles of religion and discount them as based upon well-meaning fables.
Lesser educated individuals or the unquestioning can still be led, by the nose, by a religious zealot who makes ludicrous promises of a gift wrapped reward.

In the bible in chapter 17 and 18 of revelation shows a woman that represents all religions of the world will be destroy by the rulers of the world, before the Armagedon God will use the rulers of the earth to destroy all false religion Jehovah Witness spread over 400 hundreds million of panflets last October warning people from that situation.
