I'm sure witnesses will have a properly worded excuse, and they are free to respond, but I'm interested in hearing from non-witnesses. This group does not participate in politics, the military, holidays, etc, yet they have no problem accepting the benefits offered to citizens as a result of these things.

One example among many is Holiday pay. If Witnesses don't celebrate holidays, why do they accept holiday pay? That would be the same as an atheist accepting 10 or more days of pay, for church services on Sundays, when they don't believe in God or go to church.

Unless there is some type of clause which says holiday pay can be substituted for vacation pay, or that celebration of holidays is NOT a requirement, It seems hypocritical and not very honest.

Of course there are non-religious people who do not celebrate holidays and accept holiday pay, but they aren't proclaiming to do this for RELIGIOUS and MORAL reasons which is what my question focuses on.

As a muslim female living in South Africa, Why is it that in some Islamic countries muslim women are being ill-treated, I watch documentries & i am sad & angry. Why are our muslim people in some parts of the world living like they are in ignorant times. The Quran teaches all men to love & respect women, Islam holds women in such High status that the Quran says Janat (paradise) lies under the feet of your mother. (meaning if you dont respect , love & care for your mother , the doors of Janat are closed) The Prophet (saw) said that women are prescious, The Quran gives man & women equal rights, why are aome muslim men twisting what Islam says & using it to hurt & put muslim women down.

Why are muslim men in some countries not following what Islam teaches, Why are they ill-treating muslim women & why are we as muslims allowing it t happen.

Allah (swt) will punish those that ill-treat women.

I Dont want any rued comments or insulting ones. It just upsets me to see this happening

I have noticed that many people have done horrible things because they thought God wanted them to. I admit many were psychotic, others were scared, whatever.

My question is this. Can religion help the normal person justify their terrible thoughts feelings and actions?

Does religion enable people to forget their horrible pasts and continue to view themselves as good people?

Shouldn't you all be rewriting Christianity from the ground up and paying no heed to any ideas that come before the formation of your denomination?

Please, your answer should be less than six lines....I have only four hours left for today. I need to go through all your answers carefully. Try and be straight to the point.

I have nothing against LDS I live with them and they have good family values but their want of censorship sounds quite like what they had in Afghanistan called "The Taliban".

Would you willingly live a life of unhappiness in order to not violate one of your principles? If so, which ones. Please include your religion and what country you are in, if that's not too difficult. Thanks.

This is not a jab at anyone particular religion, just an honest queery.
Take, for example, the gender of your chosen deity. Now, for me, gender implies reproduction which in turn implies a linear life span whereas most deities are considered to be immortal. The idea of any immortal (was/is/will be, all at the same time) having gender is a direct contradiction. Also, omnipresence. If your deity is in everything and is everywhere, how can it be confined to any one physical form? Therefore, how are we created in it's image (to make an example of the christian view point)? Both of these core concepts seem at odds with themselves and would make it clear to most thinking persons that these religions are anything but divine, more outmoded social control mechanisms. Just to add, I'm not interested in recieving any "shut up, Thats why!" style answers such as "you've got to have faith" etc.

Yes. Clergy seek religious positions because people won't permit imbeciles to dominate them in other spheres of society. You know what they say: Those who can't do ... become preachers.

WOW!!! Might there be a correlation between low intelligence and the inability to see someone else's point of view? Hmmmm....

I wanted to know when the rapture occurs, is it only going to be 144,000 people taken in the whole world total? Or there are 2 raptures? I mean there are a lot of people in the planet and 144,000 isn't a lot.
Does somebody know?

It does me at times. I mean some claim that monotheism is the only correct way, how can this be so when almost all (or perhaps all I'm not certain) ancient civilizations, as well as surviving ones worshipped The Gods as oppossed to one God?

I'm interested in the views of those who do believe in God, as those who don't are going to say 'neither'!
If you believe in God, do you have any problem with accepting the idea that she might be female and if so why? Please don't quote scripture for your own ends by saying God's referred to as male in the Bible - we all know the Bible was not written in English and so has been distorted through translation over many centuries. The word 'father' would have been a translation of a word for 'parent'.
