As one of the five pillars, why does Allah have a sliding 'almscale', and one that favors the rich?

I'm working on the getting the facts straight - I'm sure I'll be off as is likely the case here - the 'Zakat' is alms as a percent of wealth and is about 2.5%. The 'Khoms' is for all to pay?

you are mixing apples and oranges.

the 2.5% is not from income it is from your SAVINGS that you HAD FOR a YEAR.

the 10% is for crops if you water them by rain and only 5% if you water them yourself

the 20% is for things that you get from the ground like oil, gold and the likes

God bless

Hi there... Sorry but you've got your facts wrong... People who are rich or who can afford are required to give away 2.5% of their savings or the monetary equivalent of the gold they possess... there are many details to this... Poor people are not required to give alms.. they just receive so... And, the very rich people are more concerned with their deeds compared to the moderately earning people... Coz Allah (swt) will be more strict with the rich as to what they did with so much money... did they just spend it in luxury for themselves or did they they spend extra for benefitting the poor... So, in no sense are the rich favoured...

Peace!

There is no such scale only those who can afford to do so pay Zakaat (alms). If they are poor they recieve Zakaat that's the whole reason we pay alms, so the poor have an easier life and so why would we take it from them? So your logic is flawed.

Where is your proof? Poor people aren't required to pay anything, Rich people are supposed to give the poor by annual (Zakat).

Get your facts right.

There is no sliding scale. Anyone capable is expected to give 2.5% to the poor. If you are poor, you are not in a position to give so you are not expected to.

Those who can afford it pay 2.5%. Those who can't afford it are usually the ones receiving that 2.5%.

I am no Muslim, but it sounds very much as a normal tax system: rich people pay always less in percentage.
