To all muslims : WHY?

As a muslim female living in South Africa, Why is it that in some Islamic countries muslim women are being ill-treated, I watch documentries & i am sad & angry. Why are our muslim people in some parts of the world living like they are in ignorant times. The Quran teaches all men to love & respect women, Islam holds women in such High status that the Quran says Janat (paradise) lies under the feet of your mother. (meaning if you dont respect , love & care for your mother , the doors of Janat are closed) The Prophet (saw) said that women are prescious, The Quran gives man & women equal rights, why are aome muslim men twisting what Islam says & using it to hurt & put muslim women down.

Why are muslim men in some countries not following what Islam teaches, Why are they ill-treating muslim women & why are we as muslims allowing it t happen.

Allah (swt) will punish those that ill-treat women.

I Dont want any rued comments or insulting ones. It just upsets me to see this happening

Richbro - again you have misinterpreted. The beating the Quran referers to is where a man can show his wife that she has done wrong by beating her but the beating has to be so soft that it must feel like feathers, its just a light stroke on the hands of a female, if the women feels any pain than it is a sin, Please read all the information & not just one part of it.

Hi there.. yes, it is sad... how some people twist religion to fit their needs... And unfortunatley, others perceive that the religion itself is wrong... But, you will see Alhamdulillah, that more and more youth are learning Qur'an in proper right, and even in these countries women are respected by their husbands... They are learning true Islam.. In every culture, there are people who drink, abuse and ill treat wives... But, these events go unnoticed.. and the few ignorant muslims are highlighted... Slowly, things are changing... We should make it a point to educate others of the true beautiful Islam...
Rest, Allah will decide the fate of those who have twisted religion in any sense...

Well sister I know what your talking about and it is upsetting to see our sisters abused by their families and husbands especially when islam is against such behaviour. You hit the nail on the head when you said they are"living like they are in ignorant times".

We are in ignorant times. The Prophet SAW said if you die without a pledge of alligience to the khaleefah/muslim leader(which we havent got), you die the death of jahilliya(ignorant/pre-islamic times).

We also know that any other system exept islam will rule with injustice and oppression, and since we dont have our beloved islamic system in place anywhere in the world, oppression and injustice will be widespread.

Islam teaches us that the environment has rights that we must keep, but the west is destroying it and wasting Allah's resourses. Islam teaches us that the poor have rights of zakat, again 40,000 people die every day of starvation in the 21st century. And women have rights over us(men), but there is no system of Islam to protect them and teach the mass's about true and correct islam.

So what we see is classical survival of the fittest and since women,children and the old are usually among the weakest of society they end up oppressed.

And may Allah guide those who commit injustice to the Truth and give us success in this life and the next

The reason you see so many documentries about how oppressive,backward,militant and extremely extreme Islam is, is because of the war being waged against it. And the war against it is to stop the re-establishment of the islamic system which was abolished in Turkey in 1924

Yes, it is horrible that women are being mistreated by men who should be treating them with respect and love. I don't know why exactly men are doing this. Somehow the culture became something different from the teachings of Islam. It is something that we must all fight against. Those men need a lecture on the real path of Islam. They are portraying our religion to be something "terrible" when in truth, Islam is a religion of peace. However, we all know that they will be punished by Allah.

I have been there and i know you are right, and overall, it sure doesn't help other people understand that it is not aLL muslims who act so horrifically......It is very upsetting to see and when I was over there, just plain scarey to me. noone is questioning it from within either.....it almost seems like unless they all get together and start saying no, stop cooperating and refuse to "obey".....it may never change. It is very very sad, They are treated worse than animals and just somehow take it....the women in the usa would have those men for dinner, not make them dinner, I mean litterally have them for dinner. I wish they would find strength in their numbers and stand up to the men, but that is so much easier said than done. ......

Just like the Bible, the Koran will be interpreted any way to push forward someone else's agenda. In these countries that you speak of, it is used as a form of control over the masses. Keeping women down denies society difference of opinion and inhibits the economy.

Eventhough I am a Muslim man, I totally agree with your thoughts. Some Muslim men (majority of them) are twisting Shariah to their interests and that is what is making Islam bad in the minds of non-muslims.

My dear it has nothing to do with the religion. Remember it's a mens world.

The free society of the west think that their women are liberated by making them merely a symbol of sex.

You throw a knife at a pumpkin or throw the pumpkin on the knife, both ways it is the pumpkin which is gonna hurt.So this, I am afraid is woman in a mens world.

i am not muslim, but my school had an entire day devoted strictly to learning about islam. one thing i learned was many of the misconceptions, and i was told that the treatment of women is not in any way related to islam and has little or nothing to do with religion, but is culture and tradition in those countries. but seeing as you are muslim yourself, i'm sure you know more than i do on the subject.

These men that you mention are mis-interpreting the Qur'an to read how they want to read it.
