I heard a Benedictine Monk who is ordained in both the Roman and Byzantine rites say that the emphasis of the Roman Church is to avoid sin, but that the Byzantine rite teaches that mere avoidance of sin is not sufficient. Their emphasis is on the attainment of virtue. It seems to me that would be a more positive approach to the greater glory of God through the acts of the faithful. How would one do that?

The original of Satan comes from two sources: Egyptian and Persian.

In ancient Nilotic religions, there was Set, one of the children of Ra, the firstborn among whom was Osiris, the man-god and Son of God, the mediator and redeemer who was killed and resurrected and transmits the promise of eternal life to his worshippers who partake in the meal of bread and wine. The brother of Osiris, Set, is the bad guy who opposes his redemptive work on behalf of mankind. The name "Satan" derives from "Set."

But the idea of polar opposites of good and evil came into Christianity from Zorostrianism, with its Prince of Darkness, Aharman, who opposes Mazda, the Prince of Light, who was born of a virgin, Dukdaub. The idea of Christ being the "Eternal Son", divine before his birth, comes from Zarathustra, who was created by Ahuramazda six thousand years before his incarnation.

Where did the representation of Set/Satan as a snake originate? I don't know. I doubt if it was originally Hebrew.

That there is some thing on a high plain good and evil?
That there is a cross over to another place when you die?

According to the NT, he was well aware of slavery. Yet he never spoke out against it. Or at least, if he did, the authors of the Bible did not include it.

Some have said to me that he said nothing because he was not out to change political issues. But that doesn't sound true because he did speak out srongly against gambeling near the temple.

I've just returned from Mexico where I learned over and over again about the horrors of slavery comitted by the Conquistadores against millions of natives. For almost 2000 years after Christ, slavery was perhaps the greatest crime ever comitted by humans.

Why didn't Jesus ever make one statement against it like "Now, release all of your slaves because slavery is an abomination to God"?

At best Jesus tells people not to beat their slaves to death, but it seems he had no problem with the institution as a whole.

What are your thoughts?

If it is fulfilled, then I must be right when I say there is no God. For it is written in this statement that if my propehcy is fulfilled, there is no God.

I am an instruments of evil, Behind me is a cult of evil which seeks to harm the innocent and thrives on human suffering. Theirs is the worst kind of cruelty, the cruelty that is fed, not weakened, by tears. Theirs is the worst kind of violence, pure malice, while daring to claim the authority of God. you cannot fully understand the designs and power of evil. It is enough to know that evil, like goodness, exists. And in me evil has found a willing servant.

1Timothy 4:1-5 , The bible calls these practices teachings of demons...also they encourage idol worship which breaks God's first commandment...Ex 34:17
They say their nuns marry Christ. Christ never married and would surely not be a poligamist even spiritually.

Numbers 31:14-35
"Moses was angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who returned from the battle.
"Have you allowed all the women to live?" he asked them. Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."

The LORD said to Moses, "You and Eleazar the priest and the family heads of the community are to count all the people and animals that were captured. Divide the spoils between the soldiers who took part in the battle. The plunder remaining from the spoils that the soldiers took was 675,000 sheep, 33 72,000 cattle, 34 61,000 donkeys 35 and 32,000 women who had never slept with a man."

Hosea 13:16
The people of Samaria must bear their guilt,
because they have rebelled against their God.
They will fall by the sword;
their little ones will be dashed to the ground,
their pregnant women ripped open."

...why hasn't a Creationist won the Nobel Prize or been published in any peer reviewed scientific journals?

Seeing as scientists pick and choose the evidence that supports their theories (according to the majority of Christian thought), why hasnt Creationism been proven yet?

I was taught, earth is finite..., proof it had to therefore come from an infinite being named God.

I was taught that men and women alike are flawed creatures, no-one can be fully trusted..., except God.

This leaves me feeling a bit depressed. What does this mean? Does this mean there is no hope for me to live? Will I always be hurt by those I love for as long as I am alive?

Should I strive for a life of solitude?

This has got to be on every Christians mind who has heard about it, wondering what the World will do with this information, There have been wars fought on this subject. Christians would have to change their teachings, I am almost to feel it will be good for Christians as a hole because, there are so many seperate Churches maybe this would bring them together on a lot of the man made issues. I truly hope only good will come of it all.

and the earth? I know it then goes on mention two kids who get it on together while they eat fruit and some brother smiting his brother (I think this occurs on the streets of East Gethsemane). I LOVED this book as a kid and now that I'm regressing, I'd really like to find it again. Lots of blood & gore, an alcoholic named Noah who exacts revenge on his own son for seeing him naked, sacrifices of wives and children...but all in a child-like setting called "Babel" wherein God removes all remnants of free will by making it impossible for people to understand one another . Does ANYONE know the title and author? It would be so appreciated!
