Joh 20:17 Jesus said to her, "Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father;

then

Luk 24:39 Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have."

When he asked his disciples to touch him, he didn't ascend to the Father yet.

My goodness, have you ever studied critical thinking before? Do you even know what a contradiction is? Can you correctly spot it? By the looks of it you failed miserably. But then again, I can't really blame you for not being a student of the Bible, as you are clearly not. You see, an intellectually honest person will first try to unlock any apparent contradiction by doing some research on his own rather than jumping to conclusions. Did you even bother to check out other translations? I guess not.

The NLT says in John 20:17, "Don't cling to me," Jesus said, "for I haven't yet ascended to the Father. But go find my brothers and tell them, `I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"

It says in Luke 24:39, "Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it's really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don't have bodies, as you see that I do." As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet.

So poof goes your contradiction! In John's Gospel, Mary did not want to let Jesus go but Jesus told her that she was to go and tell the others. The word "touch" in Hebrew meant "to cling". Mary was not to hold Jesus back from going back to the Father. If He does not go back He cannot send the Holy Spirit. In Luke's Gospel Jesus was simply proving His resurrection to them by asking them to feel His wounds.

FYI, the TNIV and the ISV also say the same thing.

Another good question I asked God on already years ago.

Jesus had not yet sprinkled His redeeming blood everywhere necessary. When that was finished, then he had ascended to the Father this way (His redeeming blood). Then to prove He raised up flesh & bone, a new Temple, to touch Him & believe. Also, to consider that to cling & to touch are two different things. He didn't actually ascend to the right hand of the Father & God until later.

I think Rob has answer better written.

I am not muslim, or christian, but I have noticed that you spend a lot of time reading the bible.

*If the Qur'an is the book of Truth, as it is for Most Muslims, then why do you spend time reading the bible ?*

A Muslim should spend quality time reading the Qur'an, and muslim books and literature, and spend quality time in prayer, not reading a book which they believe is 90% false.

You may want want to re-evaluate your true intentions for reading the bible.

And when you finally have true, sincere intentions for reading the bible, go to
E-Sword to download for FREE, the New King James bible along with the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, so you can really understand the bible, in its original meanings of the Hebrew and Greek.

Click here to download it for Free:

This is the only way I understand the original meanings of the scriptures in the bible.

Does the Qur'an have such a Concordance for people to use, in order to "really" understand its TRUE meaning ? I'll do some research, and I'll find out.

How do you know that he hadn't ascended to the father yet? Where you there, and did you ask him?

====edit====

Why did you delete your last question about salting the Earth?

Didn't Jesus say that if you try to puff yourself up, then God himself will humble you? You had better quit mocking the holy words of God.

These are two different circumstances. In Luke, Jesus wanted the frightened people to know that he was in fact Human, so he told them to touch him, so that they would see that he was not a spirit. In John, Jesus had risen from the dead, but did not want to be touched before he went up to Heaven to see God. This is not a contradiction, it is two different circumstances.

I dont see the contradiction.
He just telling one person "Do not touch me" and ANOTHER person "Touch me". If he had said both to the same person, then that would be contradiction, but you left out the fact that those words were said to 2 different people! That's why there are may religions out there.... because of people like you.

Maybe he didn't feel like being touched at the time and so made that up as an excuse (not ascending) and then the next time he saw this really cute girl and he wanted her to touch him.

When Jesus said that, it was under different circumstances. He had just risen from the dead. On the second quote, since the circumstances are different, as in He had not just risen from the dead, He was touchable. I am not certain, however, why one could not touch Him after he had risen.

he didnt contradict or misspeak, read the content again it says it saying that she mary had a job to do and NOT to cling to the fact that he wasnt any longer in the tomb

15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”
She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!”
She turned and said to Him,[a] “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God

~~~ Kimo,,, Jesus didn't contradict himself,,,,The writers and followers of His Story are not accurate, thus the many shortcomings of The Christian Concept. Example: How many times in your life have you heard one person say of another, "I heard that He Said Blah Blah Blah,,," and the info was wrong?,,,
