If you don't know what plato's analogy of the cave is you shouldn't be reading this.
Anyway, if we only see this world, and can't sense the other, then don't we begin to doubt? That doubt turns into disbelief. We cannot see air, but we can feel it, this is why we believe it exists. A single sense. But now, if I say I feel the presense of God, then I would be laughed at. Why? Because they cannot sense it. I would be declared insane. So that would mean that the perceptions of many would determine reality. If that were true, then that would mean that the perceptions determine who is sane, and insane, and that reality is not fixed. It is more of an opinion. Many Atheists act as if Science has all the answers but yet many scientists once believed that flight was impossible. One hundred years ago I could have quoted the best scientists in the world that dinosaurs were cold-blooded, slow moving creatures.
Evolution is still only a theory, and has not been proven.

im naturally pessimistic, and ive learned that with pessimism, youre never dissapointed. it doesnt effect what happens, and you will either feel correct, or delighted that you were wrong.

think of it this way, would you rather wake up thinking it friday, but as it turns out, its thursday

or

wake up thinking its thursday, and its actually friday?

and you wake thinking its thursday, and it is thursday, what have you lost?

After all if we are to believe that this God fed Jews in the desert for fourty years why can't this God feed starving children?

Is this God prejudice?

Or is it that it's only children and anyone that has read the bible knows God love to kill little children!

God's sexist. He created women as "helpers to men."

In the Ten Commandments, you'll find that he refers to your neighbors wife as "belonging to your neighbor", implying that they are objects.

If you look through the bible, you'll find sexism.

Doesn't that seem more like the Israelites, who had a male-dominated society, than some all-knowing perfect being?

Honestly, God is no more credible than Egyptian mythology.

Obviously, the Israelites made this stuff up to have an organized society.

Just like the Hindus tried to make everyone accept their place by saying if you didn't you would have bad karma.

The Israelites must have made all this up to have a docile society.

So my questions are:
1. Do you WANT to be "helpers" to men?

2. Do you WANT to worship this sexist, if existant, God?

3. What makes Israel's folklore more credible than any other ancient civilizations? No one today believes in Greek or Egyptian mythology.

All sorts of organic molecules exist in space - in meteorites, in comets, in intersellar gas and dust:

The universe is clearly conducive to self-organisation and complexity, so it really shouldn't come as a surprise that this process led to the phenomenon of self-replication, evolution, and us. Why do some people continue to reject this idea?

1 Peter 3:10-12

10For,
"Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech.
11He must turn from evil and do good;
he must seek peace and pursue it.
12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

I've only met about 5 Christians on this forum that have had any real care or compassion about other religions/ irreligious people...

And at least 60% of them can't even spell "atheist" right...

So far more than 30 Christians that I've seen so far have stated in some question or another that they "can't wait to see what atheists will face after death" or that they "can't wait to see [them] burn in hell" or that "atheists have no morals because they don't believe in anything."

*Sorry to the few "Christ-like" Christians out there...

A Catholic I know recently pointed out that the Bible didn't exist for the first 300 years of Christianity. This got me thinking, and now I'm somewhat confused about the whole concept of Sola Scripturain the first place. I mean, What did the eraly Christians do?! Anyways... I guess I would be put at ease if I could find some passages that 'prove' SS.

Thanks!

I was iceskating w/ my BF and friends and while I was skating, I felt a big poop comming. I tried to skate to the bathroom but they wouldn't let me out because I had rentals on and they said I had to take em' off on the ice so I wouldn't ruin the skates. As I was taking em' off, it fell out. It plopped onto the ice, everyone started laughing. As I started to cry, diarea came out of my butt and it was all over the ice. They called my mom to pick me and and bring me new clothes.

That in this section, atheists tend to back themselves up more? Theists tend to say things like "What do we have to lose? But if God really exists, you're going to hell" and "why don't atheists believe".

Atheists actually support themselves. They give facts, proof, they make points.

I'm just saying...You theists are destroying your reputation by not giving us data...

Muslims believe this and i believe some other religions do as well. We also believe that they lived long.

Well now we know those species that are big such as a whale or human (intelligence helps too) as compared to a fly or mouse live long. At least it makes scientific sense, the bigger you are the longer you live. So if humans were very tall then at least it makes sense that they did live very long?

I am in search of anyone, ANYONE, who can provide a clear and definitive summation of these two concepts beyond their linguistic contradiction to one another. In essence, are these two absolutes (and if so--what and why) OR are they merely relative ideals to contrast with one another?
